So I fired my motherboard. I am taking this as a chance to upgrade a little bit.
I had fired my motherboard when swapping out graphics cards. The tech support for my old card said that it might have been an issue with my BIOS and should upgrade but since I lacked a floppy drive (as that is the only way I could find to upgrade BIOS) I decided to get a new card.
So I was wondering, what would you have done after frying said motherboard.
would you have taken the card back, and hoped your new motherboard works with your old card or would you have kept the new card?
I took the new card back.
poll is on its way.Edit: poll is here

With some recent motherboards, you can flash your BIOS with a USB device as long as you configure the boot-up settings to access your USB before trying storage.
Hope that helps!

If I fried a brand new motherboard I'd return it and say it was dead when I got it. The store would just pass it on to the manufacturer who would figure it is easier to just send back a working motherboard than to start arguing with a customer by pointing out that they have some quality check to make sure all boards work when leaving the factory. But it could take a couple weeks for the fried board to get the them, get tested/repaired and the repaired/replaced board to get back to the store, specially for high end products that are in short supply.
If it was a motherboard I had been using for a while I'd try the same thing but say it just died which is even less likely but hopefully they'll just want to get the issue out of the way as easily as possible without arguing with customers.
This is assuming I didn't mangle the pins in the CPU socket or something else that leaves visible traces of me breaking it.
