Travel question

I've never travelled abroad before, nor have I ever bought tickets online. However, I am planning a trip abroad for October (to the Philippines). What I want to know is: Where is a good place to buy affordable online tickets? Also, I won't be going alone, a friend (who is a senior) is accompanying me. Will $4,000 (thereabouts) be enough for tickets for both of us?

LAX to Davao via Manila on Philippine Airlines cost me about $1200 a couple years back as I recall. I don't buy online, so I have no clue about websites.

Take a look around for tickets online but I would suggest a travel agent. I have found that travel agents normally have better deals still than online. Do not know how many places you are going to but the web site http://www.bootsnall.com/ has good deals on multi-leg trips. Do your shopping for tickets it will pay off. Don't just buy from one of the major online sites.

I'm just going to Cebu, and I'll be staying in the immediate area. We're staying with a friend, so that's taken care of.

Thanks for the link, btw. :)

Cebu is nice. I'm not sure how it will affect the price, since we only go to Cebu by taking the ferry from Cagayan, never by flying. But that's a big airport, so you might be able to fly direct.

I think so. I plan to fly directly to there. I want to avoid Manila if at all possible.

One that is pretty good to find airline tickets online is kayak.com. they put together a lot of different airlines prices and even other websites. also you can try orbitz.com, its another good one, usually has some of the cheapest tickets.

Do your research online, but try calling up a few travel agents in your area. They're sometimes able to swing really good deals.

Travel agents can get bulk booking discounts. The good ones get more customers and may get more discounts which they may pass on to you. But it is always a good idea to check online for an idea of what the range is. Also, you might get some deals...especially if you are a frequent flier like me. Just crossed 250K...enough for 3 free round trips home. If only I can get some leave..:(
