Cell Phones

So, my cell phone screen has (again) died. Sadly, I didn't have any phone numbers stored to my SIM card, and so am left without any ability to contact people I need to.

What does this mean? Well, first, I'm starting a thread on NSG for people to bitch about cell phones

Second, and my real reason behind this thinly veiled "Please help me" thread, I was wondering if anyone on here has a Motorola KRZR k1 (the version for Cingular/AT&T). If you do, I was hoping you would be able to guide me through how to store the numbers from the phone to the SIM card (basically, guide me through it as if you were guiding a blind person. Who, for whatever reason, can read a message board...)

That you are to reliant on your cell phone.

seeing as it is my only phone line and has contacts such as the people I drive to work, as well as my assorted cooperating teachers numbers, my families numbers, and friends numbers, yeah...I am quite reliant upon it.

Motorola, you say? I could never betray the fatherland and/or the Grand Duchy in such a manner.

Besides, bitch about my baby? Heaven forfend!

haha...sadly, my baby grew up into a bitter, angry teenager and needs a good beating. I would have swapped back to Nokia, but the place near me didn't have any in my price range (small store).

See, this is where our difference in culture shows - here that would just mean it needs a good shag like all teenagers. Snaps them right out of emo.

I gather that somehow in the USA cell phones are tied to cellular network providers in some weird and archaic sort of way and seem not to be purchased freely on a capitalist market as they are in our libertarian parts, so... I don't know what "out of your price range" means.

You can buy unlocked phones off ebay, but I sadly needed the replacement by tomorrow, so didn't have the needed luxury of time.

as for out of my price range, the cheapest Nokias they had were around $350...I had been looking to spend around 100 and ended up at 265

I think if you went into "edit info" or whatever, there might be a "save to SIM" option.
Screens dead, so I need someone to literally walk me through each button press. Sux.
We have a back up phone that's just a track phone. Cost like $30 and it works with our SIM cards.

Yeah, I had one untill my sisters phone died and she took it. And broke it. Wench.

350, that's like €240, a tad expensive for a shackled base Nokia, true - you'd expect them free if sold with contracts... I wish I could help, but short of international technological aid packages sent to Massachusetts, I don't have any ideas apart from the lucrative jobs we call blow.

Yeah, sadly, I wasn't in the market to sign on to a new contract (I'm still on family plan with mom and dad for another year, and they don't want it extended, and I don't want to stay with AT&T when I'm done).

Damn straight phones. Damn them to hell.

I need the convenience of a cell phone (I'm constantly moving at this phase of my life, and do use it frequently for "emergency" type things)...so land line is out. Address books get lost far too easily.

I need to remember to make a back-up copy more than anything else.

and no, needing my cell phone is no better or worse than anyone else needing any other form of communication device.

So, what I hear is true, "unlocked" - how antediluvian. Sorry.

I'd just take it to the store and play with their display model to figure that out. I'd think the razr would probably have the same amount of clicks. but the only person who has one that I know (you), isn't here. I'd look for my old slvr to try to help you, but I'm still mad at you for breaking my keyboard.I'll replace it. One day. Maybe. The KRZR for verizon is sadly different (fuckers), but maybe the razr will work...

It can be done. The book isn't specific enough is the problem. I need to know exactly how many times to press each button. The manual says "Go to options -> copy. I need to know "press menu. Press right soft key. press down five times. press menu"

Yeah...pay phones aren't a wonderful way to call in sick to work or find out why a person is late showing up to my car, and seeing as most of my friends only have cell phones which are listed to random cities around the country, a phone book doesn't really help.

steps

1. find someone with a landline phone you can use
2. dial this number 1-800-331-0500
3. explain to tech support that your phone screen has died and that you need to save your numbers to your SIM
4. follow their directions

You would think that would be the first idea I would have...

wow. I'm actually kinda embarassed that I didn't think of that.

they have done it for me before when my cell screen died. (kid dropped it and the LCD panel thing fell off!)

I really can't figure out how mine broke. I was talking on it, hung up, put it on my night stand, took a nap, woke up, and it was dead.

In this usage it means "fuck me". I quite like the quote langefrancaise.net gives for "défoncer le cul" ("fuck in the ass"):

I'm awful at remembering numbers. It took me a full year to remember my home number when we first moved. I usually have a back up, but I forgot to make it when I got this phone, and the old one is out of date.

I don't like cellphones. I don't like the idea of (potentially) being reachable 24/7.
I should get one of those prepaid ones for the glove compartment of my car though, so in case I get into an accident or a flat tire I can call AAA.

I love how people are so disoriented and paralyzed when their cell phone falls in the toilet, gets run over by a car, is eaten by a cow, explodes in a huge fireball, dies, is stolen, or somehow destroyed, bricked, or incapacitated.

Snail mail, semaphore, tin cans & string, and seance. Those'll do it for you.
Whisper into the trees at the initiation of dusk. They'll carry it on as well.

BTW, my cell phone sucks. It actually doesn't let me know there's been a call if i don't hear/feel the ring, and when people leave messages it takes two days to let me know that too.
I'd blame it on abuse but i really just neglect it for the most part.

Next one's gonna have MP3 import capacity. I have some really specific ringtones in mind. *nods emphatically*
