I know it has to be one of you, so I'm hoping you will come forward and admit this is you. So which one of you is Cody Hauer? Come on, fess up. :p
An 18-year-old Republican's enthusiasm for presidential hopeful Ron Paul could cost him more than $550.

Cody Hauer has been cited four times in one week for displaying a 13-inch-by-40-inch "Ron Paul Revolution" decal in the rear window of his car. The problem is that such decals are illegal if they obstruct the driver's view.

"It's very clear in state statute that you cannot have anything that obstructs the driver's vision."
including trailers? what about vehicles that don't have any view out the back by their very nature? not saying that the stop is political (that would be stupid), but it seems to me that the law can't exactly be that simple.

hes 18 and he can afford to do this? I can't even afford the bus at the moment!
Hauer said he'll argue in court that the law violates his First Amendment right to free speech.
it sicken me when people make this argument...
on a related note I have always wanted to shout fire in crowded theatre and see what happens

From the looks of it, he should argue that it does not block his vision.

I was imagining a solid decal that covered the entire back window. Sort of like this (http://www.bubendorfer.org/images/Flag-Decal-01.jpg). This guys decal is practically see through. From the picture .. I can see through the rear window just fine.

It doesn't block the driver's view. It just reduces it somewhat. The brain can draw the missing parts together in its concept of what's being seen.

Different states have different rules about the windows. In California you can't stick the GPS to your windshield even if it's not really in your field of view (mine would end up blocking my dashboard, not traffic, but I'd get pulled over anyway). I imagine if his was smaller and in the corner (I believe there is a spot right behind the driver is okay, but I might think that because that's where the DMV has me stick the registration pass while I try and smog my van). I think it's universal that you need at least two mirrors in any combination.
I think the draconian nature of the law is to prevent squables over what does and does not obstruct vision. As someone who was pulled over no shit weekly for a while I'd rather the law be cut and dry rather than up for interpretation so that I'm not on the side of the road for something 20 cops passing me thought was okay but one bored asshole decided wasn't.

Dude you broke the thread. Would've been cooler for you to had linked each letter than posting the entire address .. you could've even made up some neat sarcastic remark or words for each letter in the links. Next time just hit enter after each link address if you don't want to be bothered with doing [url = address ]what you want here[ /url ] (address).

According to Ron Paul's interpretation of the Constitution, this kid can't argue that it is a violation of his 1st Amendment rights. The Bill of Rights, according to Paul, only applies to the federal government, and a local police department is not federal.
