Cannilbalism...would you eat human?

B E E K E R

This is a subject that has fascinated me for years...if eating Human was legal...would you try it?

We are quite unique as a species in that any ideas of us eating each other is seen as abhorant...yet in the rest of the animal kingdom cannibalism is rife...

Why is there such a stigma attached to eating our own kind?

Before you ask im not some freak who wants to do it...though to be honest if it was legal to do so and prepared nicely I certainly wouldnt baulk at the thought...

Just wondering about your thoughts on the subject and the moral implications?

Did you know human beings are most irritated between 4-6pm?
According to one study that took the results of the number of human bite attacks treated in hospitals. Probably because it's about rush hour time, and you're hungry and want to go home and eat.

Anyway, no i would not eat another human being, it would repulse me even to think i ate someone else.
Mind you there was that cool book that had the people eating another person and they were stuck in the highlands in a thunderstorm, the chef accepted the meat from a stranger who said it was Ostriech meat, they found out it was human when one of them saw a tatto in their food.
I know i'm bored i like sharing stories, and this time they're slightly relevant.

A friend of mine might have eaten human meat when he was living in Uganda.
I say 'might have' - he ate a nondescript bowl of food in a village, and his (local) girlfriend later told him it had contained human meat. On the one hand, he says she was a bit of a wind up merchant, so she might have just been kidding. On the other hand, he says cannibalism isn't exactly unheard of in modern Uganda, so it could be true.

Anyway, he reckons it tasted a bit like goat.

Humans do not chew their cud, nor do they have split hooves. Ergo, I will not eat a human unless the following conditions are filled:
1. I am at risk of death by starvation
2. The human is the only large supply of food in the area
3. He is currently dead

Also, killing a person so you can eat him is illegal.

I was speaking under Jewish law, which allows a wide variety of actions if your life is in danger. However, killing someone so you can eat him, even if not doing so means you starve to death, is against Jewish law.

UB, don't turn this into another debate on how Judaism is evil and ignorant. It's like waging nuclear war where both of us have all-powerful missile systems - it doesn't affect our positions in the slightest, and the rest of the world gets covered in fallout.

I just think that people could carry around donor type cards which...(and this is the only circumstance I can see humans being eaten) in the event of an accident and death by unnatural cause...the bearer of the card will donate their body to be eaten in certain high class restaurants.

I can absolutely say without a doubt I would try human meat and I wouldnt be revulsed in doing so.

The problem is not in eating humans really, it is in killing them. It's just as gross to eat beef once their dead. Heck, some monkeys are 98% similar to us (considering their DNA), and we still eat them.

It's just because we're used to eating meat that we're not disgusted by it. If you had a pig as a pet (and that's legal in most countries), would you it eat?

hmmm...but you dont explain why it would be disgusting...you are basing your assumptions due to your inbuilt morality...we are not eating excretement here or something equally disgusting...human...although taboo...is still meat...so prepared and cooked properly why would it be disgusting...its just the idea that disgusts you...the actual reality of it would probably be the opposite.

I was looking for the Billy Connolly sketch where he talks about how cannibalism could solve the world's problems, everyone eats one person, population halved overnight! You could eat someone I don't like, I could eat someone you don't like... Too many prisoners? Eat them! Too many homeless people? Eat them too! But then you suddenly realise. Dangit, we could have put them in all those empty prisons...

It would depend on the nature of the legality of it.

If humans are being killed to provide meat I certainly wouldn't.

If it were only dead corpses and consent was given from the family I wouldn't out of respect.

Having said that I would like my organs to be used to help others after my death.

Surely it would help others if I provided meat after I was dead.

If this was our culture then I suppose I probably would be alright with it, as the dead have given consent to help others with their corpse just like organ donation.

Interesting thread.
Plotadonia
09-02-2008, 07:50
Surely it would help others if I provided meat after I was dead.

It would not help anywhere near as much as you being an organ donor. We can get meat from other sources. As of right now, we can only get vital organs like hearts and livers from the recently dead.

I guess it might be okay if only muscle meat was taken from dead corpses, but organ meat from humans should not be allowed on the practical ground that we have a hard enough time finding donation organs as it is without eating them.

One question though, is cannibalism actually illegal in the United States, or is that an urban legend, and I ask this because I know there are tribal peoples from places like Indonesia and Africa that practice cannibalism as a burial ritual and it seems like it would be trampling on their first amendment right to worship in their traditional manner to not allow them their customary funeral rite, especially when they're not technically committing any other crime or infringing on any other individuals rights, and implied consent is present.

Depends on eating what part of human and if said human was omnivore or herbivore. Vegans I'd steer away from, but normal meat-eating humans are said to taste much like pork. ;)

So if in extreme situation and it was "eat human or starve to death", sure I would. In less extreme situations I'd probably try to find something else, because it would be hard to explain why someone's gluteus maximus has gone missing. :p

Most countries don't have laws against cannibalism because it's so uncommon.

They usually don't have to, as the criminal law has other ways to deal with it. Depending on country, it's either goes under the law about what you're allowed to do with human remains (cadavers and such) or if the person is left alive, the aggravated assault on their person or whatever the wording is in English, nevermind if the person said it was okay.

Wasn't there that case in Germany where a guy had put an ad online that he was looking for a person who'd want to get eaten, and it was an assisted suicide - they left clear documentation - and then he used the person's flesh for food. I think it came under the law of human remains and then murder/manslaughter or something like that.

Come to think of it, "manslaughter" is a funny word, since we slaughter the animals we intend to eat... :p :D ;)

Cannibalism is very practical. i think morbidly obese people should be killed for meat. it's not like they're doing anything productive for society anyway

Like someone already said, eating such humans would be very bad for your health. Besides, it's better to let them be in case there _is_ a worldwide famine, since they'll in essence be living food supplies that last a long time... :p (And I'm neither shipshape supermodel nor a person who takes up 2 chairs in an airplane.)

depends on the person surely? would you eat Tom Cruise?

Hell, yeah! Where do I sign up??? All scientologists should be shot and buried, but if you were allowed to check out the human flesh consumption marketability in between the bullet and the grave, why not. He keeps himself fit, right? Good eating. :D

I just think that people could carry around donor type cards which...(and this is the only circumstance I can see humans being eaten) in the event of an accident and death by unnatural cause...the bearer of the card will donate their body to be eaten in certain high class restaurants.

I had my minions do that in Araraukar, when the option arose... it was quite funny. XD

Baby humans wouldn't have much steak on them. Babies are mainly fat and cartilage. Wait until they're 4 or 5 years olds, running everywhere and driving their mothers crazy. Then they'll be "young and tender" as the saying goes for veal.

I wonder where the best cuts would come from...the thigh I guess?

Thighs, calves and gluteous maximus, I'd guess. Mind you, the person would have to be in fairly good shape. And heart is a muscle too.
