I smoke cigarettes, cigars, pipes, weed, and salvia.

I smoke about twenty cigarettes a day, maybe one cigar, I only smoke a pipe during sunset or when I want to think about something for a while. I love smoking weed and salvia, but ever since I was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar I'm afraid I can't.

There's nothing wrong with smoking, provide you respect others if they do not wish for you to smoke around them. That being said, in canada and especially alberta the laws they are making regarding those who smoke are discriminatory. Just make them illegal already. But they can't do that, because they have to respect peoples rights to do it. It's ridiculous. You should be able to smoke in a bar, because the reason you're there is to drink a damn poison. Businesses should be able to have sealed smoking and nonsmoking sections. If there was a valid reason to not have a second dining area, with a door and an extra ventilation system so that people don't have to breath your smoke, then please tell me. Oh, and the amount of pollution from cars is far worse for your health than the second hand smoke from cigarettes, you can just look down on people who smoke and take away their cigarettes because only a percentage of the population smokes, whereas everyone drives a car. Bloody hypocrites.

"Things I learned in college" trivia time:

Did you know that when somebody asks "Do you smoke?" you can almost always tell whether they're talking about marijuana or regular cigarettes just by the way they articulate the question? An overly subtle tone, or an emphasis on the articulation of the word "smoke" usually indicates that the speaker is referring to reefer!

Bloody hypocrites. It's a matter of convenience. In most cases driving a car is more economical than cleaner modes of transportation because it saves time. Driving a car is also safer than riding a bike in a city that is not very well designed for bikes. Smoking is expensive and dangerous.

Maybe it's irrational of me to be resentful of all cigarettes because a few smokers annoy me, but I kind of am. I see smokers in the stairway all the time and they also like to stand around doors. There's a campus rule against smoking in places everyone has to walk by, but smokers seem to deliberately choose to smoke in those places and the security never enforces any rules.

ghah, i'm glad i never got hooked on subsidising the tobacco industry and what THEY subsidize.

the one thing i've always 'rebelled' against, perhapse ironicly, is peer pressure itself. which is why i never got hooked on tobacco when everyone else was doing so.

i explored some of the other substances when i was curious about them, but when i found they did nothing to gratify what intrests me, i couldn't see the point.

I don't. There's nothing cool, mature, or sexy about doing it. It not only slowly kills you, it makes you unsexy. Only a smoker would like kissing a fellow smoker because of the ashtray aftertaste.

If I need to calm down, I either listen to music (Led Zeppelin or early Metallica), do some Bhuddist breathing (where your belly swells when you inhale), or play some video games, preferably classic Nintendo games on my NES and SNES. I don't need poisons to calm me down.

Plus, it really ages you. I have two grandmothers less than five years apart and the one that used to smoke looks at least twenty years older than the one who never smoked.

Does anyone here smoke? If you do smoke, what do you smoke?

I smoke a pipe, a cigar about once a month, and about a pack of cigarettes a week (Camel Turkish Royals and Maralbro Virginia Blends). However, Im currently quiting the cigarettes because theyre too expensive (yes, Im really quiting, I refuse to be one of those people who says they are and than doesnt).
I'm a social smoker. For whatever reason, smoking never hooked me. I enjoy a cig when I'm out at the pub, and I generally will join smokers if they take one of their smoke breaks, but I've never felt the desire to routinely smoke on my own.

In college, smoking was great for socializing. I usually carried a pack of cigarettes for the specific purpose of giving them out to people. Whenever I was early for class (or so late as to decide not to bother) I could light up and loiter around and not look out of place. Other smokers would frequently engage in conversation with me. It was a nice way to meet people, and giving a fella a smoke is a nice way to start off a conversation on a friendly note.

Himself smoked hard core for about 5 years or so. He started while in high school, quit during our senior year of college. He was genuinely hooked and quitting sucked. He was a royal pain to be around. But he kicked the habit. Good for him.

Nope, never smoked and refuse all other forms of it if offered to me.
I was put off by my dad who smokes, it costs alot of money, stinks, lots of bad things about your health, specifically the breathing is what bothers me, and you put on weight if you try to stop smoking.
Definately a bad idea, pulicised by out of date propaganda, and a laughable desire to be different from other people.

That's exactly the point! There is an important social aspect to smoking that so many people refuse to recognise. It's like going to a furcon, you know everyone there is going to have the same interest as you, so you have no problems stricking up a conversation with anyone as you both already know you have something in common. And for those who say use the nicotine patch, well it's just not the same. I've used patches and inhalers and the gum and I don't get anything out of it. In fact the patches make wherever I put them go completely numb so I can't even use them.

And "smoking to me is financially unsound", it is? I spend about two hundred dollars a month on cigarettes. That works to 2400 a year. I make more than that in a month, I'm literally running out of things to spend my money on. Besides, buying two cups of a coffee a day at 1.50 works out to 60 dollars a month. Maybe there are those of you who buy a chocolate bar every day from a vending machine as a little snack, it all adds up.

And for Dalmatia, who said that chewing tobacco is disgusting, well I tend to agree with you. But really it depends on their personal style of using it. Are they flamboyant? Seeing how far they can spit with it, or are they more subdued and respectful? just carrying around a pop can or some other container. And spitting is typically considered... indecent or rude or antisocial behavior. There are many places in the world where spitting is a crime.

"Refraining from smoking is essential to purity. Those who smoke pollute the mind and soul."

I will only believe you if you choose a life of complete abstinence, and only eat foods that are naturally grown yourself without any chemicals or chemical fertilizers that you didn't make yourself. Also you have to live in a forest so you don't breath as much polluted air. All food you eat can contain no psychotropics, stimulants, or depressants. If you don't do at least those things, than you're a hypocrite who picks and chooses the most conveniant things in life and yet feel haughtily superior over those who have a single habit that you frown upon.

Mostly social smoking. I'd consider quitting, especially with the 100% smoking ban in bars, but I'm afraid I'd turn into one of those militant ex-smokers that walks up to you with the specific goal of complaining even when they're sitting on the other end of the bar, and even then they don't do it straight to your face but just start fake coughing while standing behind you. Bill Hicks taught me how to deal with those types:p

As for the weed, it's mostly a casual thing. If it wasn't for coffeeshops I doubt I'd be doing it. I don't do it more than once or twice a month anyway.

I just have one cig left in this here pack - and not enough small change to buy more today... :(

Gave up cannabis, but I still smoke cigarettes.

No. Never have, never will. I'm a singer; for me to smoke would be beyond stupid.

No, I care about my body, mind, and life.

THREADSTEAL FTW!

Stress kills people, cigars relieve stress and save lives.

When you're old enough to buy tobacco, you can make an informed decision about what it means to care about your life instead of just guessing.

I clicked cigarettes in the poll, but I have not smoked since the Wednesday before last (You know, Lent and all). Before then, I did Djarum Blacks (I guess my definition of cigarette is somewhat broad). My goal is to use both the Lent and the incredibly chilly temperatures to get myself off the nicotine.

I still have half a pack lying around, though. It sounds bizarre, but having a few cigarettes at the bottom of a drawer keeps me from smoking, since I can use them as an excuse not to go out and buy a new pack (Which I would almost certainly begin smoking immediately) while simultaneously resolving not to smoke them on the off chance that someone happens to come over and ask for one (Considering how few of my friends smoke, it is very unlikely). Strange, I know, but so far it has been more effective than my resolutions not to restart after finishing a pack. Hopefully, the next time a similar poll comes up, I can confidently click the 'nonsmoker' option.

As with Bottle and Knights of Liberty, it was/is the social thing that attracts me. There are not many other plausible excuses for hanging around outside my apartment building and greeting my neighbours.
