Happy Semla Day!

Yay! Today was (and still is) "Fettisdagen" ("fat Tuesday") - the official Swedish day to gorge of the pastry we call "semla". Glorious, delicious, mouthwatering cardamom buns stuffed with almondy goodness and topped off with Atkinsian amounts of whipped cream. Orgasmic. If your godforsaken country has once more neglected to adopt another one of our food holidays, I scoff at it! Scoff, I say, scoff with a cream and sugar-covered nosetip!

If the cream was unsweetened, and there was no icing sugar adorning this confection, I would glady make a pig of myself.

I want a national pastry day.

Why you acting all diabetic?

Why you acting all diabetic? Hypoglycemic dear. Sugar messes with my mojo leading to the shakes, the sweats, the spins, and the unconsciousnesses. Less drastically, too much sugar makes my tongue go all fuzzy and yucky.

How cold is it in Sweden right now?

I think I'll move to Chile instead and gorge myself unconscious on torta de mil hojas (http://www.portalchileno.ca/recetas/pictures/tortaMilHojas2.jpg).

Sometimes I wonder if Fass is only ever truly happy when he's enjoying some pastries...

But seriously, no thank you. I'm trying to become healthier, not fatten up again. :)

If you're hypoglycemic, you'd want sugar, you know...

How cold is it in Sweden right now?

Right now, at 23.03 it is 0-2 ºC where I am.

I think I'll move to Chile instead and gorge myself unconscious on torta de mil hojas (http://www.portalchileno.ca/recetas/pictures/tortaMilHojas2.jpg).

If you're hypoglycemic, you'd want sugar, you know... But not refined simple sugar. Consuming large amounts of sugar takes me up, then crashes me down very quickly. I have to maintain my sugar levels with protein and small amounts of complex carbs.

I didn't want you moving here, silly, but hasn't Chile suffered enough? You've compared me to the horrors of a dictatorship, or perhaps to a series of natural disasters. I'm aghast.

The cream lowers the GI...

I didn't compare you to them, I was just saying that people who've suffered through those need not salt for their wounds.

The cream lowers the GI... Hahaha, well perhaps I could justify that, but I'd still want it unsugared thanks...it's sweet enough all on its own.

Umm..that they are probably worth starting wars over? Tha we need t follow the One True Food? That all good food either contains chocolate and/or is made out of potatoes? (They put chocolate covered potatoes on the menu the other day in one of my favorite restauranty places. Yay!)

She doesn't even know anything about eating out any more, either.

Plenty about confectionary, although in this case they're horribly, horribly wrong.

Anyway, pancakes are tasty enough for me. So hurrah for Shrove Tuesday.

As I'm sure you know, pretty much all of Sweden has milder winters than Edmonton does.

But Edmonton does have nalysnyky, so that's something.
