When it comes to Half-Life, Dr. Judith Mossman. I just like her more than Alyx.

(Oh, fie! It appears I've stolen the thread...now where is Lamarr?)

Who is your favorite female video game character?

I personally like Alyx Vance. She's smart, funny, and manages to be kickass without a gratuitously large chest. Also, how many female characters have ever given you a hug?

I'm going to bed now. I'll see what y'all come up with in the next several hours.

At the moment, I'm undecided between Chell and GLaDOS. Okay, so one of them is a psychotic artificial intelligence, but that's just part of the charm.

She is one of the more brutal characters on this game, being the leader of the Cypherite Organization she talks like a grandmother using phrases such as dearies and darling, but don't let the sweet talk throw you off, she can and is very deadly. She is formally known as Toorima when she was with Zion but she killed her own crew to escape Zion and became a Cypherite. Her style of attacks is many and very often deadly. You would be wise to not cross her path unless you want to look over your shoulder for the rest of your life.

I am somewhat partial to Kairi from the Kingdom Hearts series, but more because I want her to be a strong character than for what she really is. (Seriously, it pisses me off that even in this day and age characters like her are always made out to be "damsels in distress." Women are just as strong as men.)

Speaking of strong female characters, Lucca from Chrono Trigger is one of my top favorites. Cute and amazingly brilliant, PLUS involved with time travel? Winner. Win. Ner.

Samus Aran, the original solo video game warrior. She's pretty much unique nowadays. Almost every other playable female video game character is either wearing something revealing, sexy-but-not-revealing, or a dress. Not Samus. All Samus has on is body armor from head to toe. Samus is one of the few female protegonist that isn't in the game for sex appeal or girl appeal.

Hmmm.... thats tough.... Probably Heather from Silent Hill 3. She begins the story just an innocent girl, but kills her fair share of pants-browning monsters and by the end is almost reinvented. Another thing about her is they dont make her sexy to get cheap appeal, and shes by no means a damsel in distress.

Alternatively it would be Freya From Final Fantasy IX. The dragon hunter is perhaps the most capable and unique person in your entire party. Shes shrouded somewhat, both by her outfit and the fact she's a burmecian long before you reach the city, and perhaps the best image we get of burmecia as its a worntorn wreck by the time our party finally gets there. She's not only one of my fav female characters, shes one of my fav game characters altogether. So yeah probably Freya.

Oh you are missing out! The founder of the final fantasy series (i'm lost for his name at the moment) was quoted as saying that IX is the way that an FF game should be. It's my personal favourite, and I'm not alone in that view either.

Go out and play it!! Now!!!

Well, Alyx is wearing 'normal' clothing. She could walk down the streets of New York without attracting any attention.

You need to have played Baldur's Gate to understand.

To understand that she was annoying in the first game and did nothing but whine in the second? Viconia is easily the best female character in the BG games.

But as to my favorite ever, I'll probably have to third (or fourth?) Kreia. She was really awesome, and made it worth playing through KotOR 2 despite everything else that was wrong with it.

Ah. I see. No wonder I wasn't aware of who she was...I avoid Star Wars games on principle.
You might want to try the Knights of the Old Republic games, or at least the first one. They're kind of like the Riddick game - way, way better than the source material. :)

Let's see:

Most Overlooked: Jedi Exile-KoTOR 2

Seems like most people are surprised when they find out the Exile is supposed to be a woman. Though the canonizing of a female Exile may have more to do with Revan being declared male than anything else.

Best Dialogue: Kreia-KoTOR 2

Kreia easily has some of the best dialogue I've seen in many years. Her lines can range from downright creepy to particularly profound to scathing. I could do without the penis jokes, though.

Most Creepy: Alma-F.E.A.R.

Nothing like an 8 year old with the ability to seriously fuck with your head and liquify human flesh with a thought to set your senses on edge. I'm shooting at shadows wondering when she's about to show up next.

so many more, too much to pick from, so I'll just cut to the chase:

Overall: Samus Aran-Metroid series

Before her, female characters were the arbitary female PC. That's gotta stand for something.
