Captain America is back! But does he need a gun?

Some people seem to be upset over Captain America carrying a gun. Is this going too far on either side?
Or is it just annoying hardcore comic fans?

Well, we see how well that worked originally with the Captain America/US Agent deal some years ago....
This reminds me of the Death of Superman, and Batman being replaced temporarily by Azrael. You just don't kill off the iconic figures; people want them back.

Sure, but fucking with the formula (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swamp_Thing#Alan_Moore) often improves a stale comic creation.

Sometimes.... but then again, Bruce Wayne returned to being Batman, and Clark Kent returned to being Superman, etc. etc. etc.

Personally I'm surprised they can keep Superman going for so long. I mean he's virtually indestructible with his only weakness being Kryptonite (which apparently everyone has at least a closet full of, even Clark's adoptive parents) and you can only read about him saving Lois or Jimmy so many times before getting bored with it.

Superman, while not weak to magic, isn't immune to it either. In other words, a magic using villain can give him a run for his money. Like Mxy.

He’s always struck me as a nutjob that refuses to cooperate with others. The “I’ll do what I want and the rest of the world can go hang” attitude he displays is something I’ve always hated about him.

They should update Captain America's weapons. He should be armed with a torture kit, wire taps and constitution shredder.
Sometimes.... but then again, Bruce Wayne returned to being Batman, and Clark Kent returned to being Superman, etc. etc. etc.
Yet they have shown Batman using a gun, Clark using weapons like the Negative Zone Projector...
Capt has carried guns in the past. it's the fact that he tries to use other ways before resorting to the gun that was his characteristic.
They should update Captain America's weapons. He should be armed with a torture kit, wire taps and constitution shredder.
Capt's pretenscious, condensending attitude and rightous posturing was torturous enough.
Captain America strikes me as nothing more than a propaganda tool.

Yep.
It makes perfect sense for Bucky to use a gun however, as he did the 'dirty' work during World War II, and then became the Winter Soldier after being brought back to life by the Soviets.
Edit: Damn, all you Captain America naysayers suck. Captain America is the shit. He's one of the best super heroes ever. You all can go suck Red Skull's cock if you don't like Captain America. (comic book fans should get that...)
I really don't see the issue with a comic hero finally doing the smart thing. I only wish that the writers would have done the smarter thing and let this character stay dead. Yes, I know that this is a new person in the Cap's suit but when no one really dies in comics except the poor normal folk that get crushed under some monster as it's knocked on its back by a super-punch.
Superman should have stayed dead.

Yes, well, Punisher was a maniacal vigilante from his beginning.
Cap has generally avoided lethal force over much of his career.

GM is hardly responsible (http://prehistoricpulp.blogspot.com/2007/08/xenozoic-tales-aka-cadillacs-and.html) for that, it was an independent comic. I don't think Cadillac would by design be the symbol of a dystopic world driven underground by pollution...
