I hate my computer.

When I play a game it will stall (sound skips and screen freezes for about 20 sec or so). It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't every minute.

It is an nVidia card and apparently it is a big problem with vista, so I went back to XP but the problem is still there. I didn't think it was going to go away as I had the problem before vista, but at least now I know what it was.

driver nvlddmkm, and apparently there is no fix (I have the driver up to date....not much else to do.)

It even happens on something as low brow as spider solitaire. :headbang: I probably need a new graphics card.

I have actually seen quite a few cases of video/sound skips and pauses being caused by failing hard drives (or simply bad sectors) boot to an XP disk or another bootable OS (such as superwin PE ) and run a checkdisk repair to see if it is sector issues

That would cause a graphics card driver to fail or can the computer just not figure it out?

Anywho, thanks for the info I'll check it asap.

So do you hate you computer? if so why? When the screen goes blank for the twenty or so seconds, does a nice popup come up in the system tray linking it to something? If so, could you tell us what it says. I get it often for my ATI graphics drivers.

You could try running memtest+ and see what happens.

But yes, I hate my computer too. My Vista serial was declared unauthentic last week. Good fun that is.

Often it affects things like Swap and can cause all kinds of odd performance issues

How long did the test take?

I dont remember what my log said ... I kicked it off and went home for the night :)

We had an odd shutdown twice with one of our 9 Vmware cluster nodes, part of the troubleshooting procedure for them. I did not think it was hardware actually but they wanted to eliminate it ...

I can't really believe they'd suggest it. It takes more than a night to get past my machine with a mere 3 gigs.

Lol they saw something in the vmware logs that hinted that way ... as it was a member of a high availability cluster we could have left the node out for a week or two safely with enough capacity to not have to worry about it

It failed well before it was done but on our end we could have let it go days if necessary it was not something that had to complete by morning even though it errored before then as the virtuals had moved to other nodes in the cluster/

I ran the cheack disk and had it try to repair..took over 3 hours...

apparently there is not anything wrong because I did not have any error messages from the scan, it just went ahead and booted up.

I did fall asleep near the end though, and didn't actually see it finish....
