Things you've learned from NSG

Instead of a long pointless debate about how one diety may or may not exist, or why this poltical figure does or does not need to be brutally tortured, I thought it would be a nicer change of pace to take a moment, and reflect on the things you've actually learned from Nationstates.
Me, I've learned:
That I've seriously underestimated the power of Pie.
That the answer to all of life's problems can be found simply by remembering the following equation : Pie*Pi= ?
That Robert's rules of Order do not now, nor have they ever applied to a debate in this forum at any point in time. Instead, it is the following:
!: Poster makes thread to debate a religous, political, or scientific topic, or a mix there of.
2: Strong points and arguments are made on both sides, but no one actually listens to each other.
3: a spammer, Troll, or Flame-baiter, or a mix there of enters the thread.
4: Debate degenerates into responses to the spammers, Trolls, and Flame-baiters, which have now given rise to actual Flamers.
5:At some point, the thread either dies, or gets locked by a moderator, but not before someone gets whacked upside the head with the banstick. The thread then dies, but not before respawning slightly re-worded in a brand new thread, which brings us back to point number one.
But finally, I've learned that despite years of research, careful study, and hiring the occasional stalker, I still don't know what makes Lunatic Goofballs tick, or what goes on inside his head.
What about you, what have you learned from your time in NSG?

That I'm better than everyone else.
The people don't think through their opinions, and they don't want to.
1) Debating Religion here is like peeing while wearing dark clothes. sure you get a nice warm feeling, but in the end, no one really notices until you stink and you're left feeling cold, clammy and uncomfortable in the spotlight.
2) Spam is healthy and necessary in any forum. Too much spam however, is a dangerous thing
3) people come in a myrad of wonderous variety in thought, dreams, and abilities. cherish them for if we were truely the same, the forums of the world will be filled with "me too."

Unless you live in the North East USA, you probably can't find canned bread in your grocery store - but you can buy it online. The pancake batter spray is nationwide and available at most Costcos. I like the bread alot, but the pancake thing is awesome. Just spray it in the pan and you have PERFECT pancakes - no mess, no clean-up. It's great when you come home late and want flapjacks but know you're too drunk to make them from scratch. I learned about both of these fine products from the NSG forum. :)

How ironic.
I can't imagine listing out everything I've learned from NSG if we're being serious. I love that I can come here and disagree with vehemently with liberals about something I'm liberal about, with Christians about something Christian despite also being a Christian, with men about what it means to be manly, etc. I've always tried to be open-minded but both my opinions and my understanding of various topics has been wildly expanded by encountering some of the learned people on NSG (no, JuNii, not you).
I've also learned that more clearly you demonstrate someone is wrong, the more likely they are to pretend they said something else.
Ok.

5) You'll never find someone who won't express a particular kind of viewpoint.

7) Apparently I *can* reply to a future post.
8) Time really *can* fly...and that I can't. :(
9) That Jolt really has a problem with you "searching" through old posts
10) That there's no way to use ":sniper:" ":mp5:" or ":gundge:" in a serious debate.

3. The same intelligence, nobility, and humor is found in people of all ideologies and countries.
4. The same stupidity, fear, and stinginess are found in people of all ideologies and countries.
5. There are people on the Internet who make even more absurd generalizations than in real life.
6. Most people take themselves far too seriously.
7. Most people, no matter how far to a political extreme they might be, still think of their position as the central reference point.
8. Moderators are evil oppressive fascists, attacking those who disagree with the liberal/conservative views of the forum.
9. Most people way overestimate their debate skills, while others overestimate them only slightly.
10. I'm a liberal/anarchist/fascist/commie/capitalist/hick/black racist/heretic/deluded religionist/freethinker/rationalist/genius/idiot.

That no matter what you start as your thread it will almost always end up discussing something else

Ah, some people *never* learn that one. :p
It is something only learned through experience. I myself am scarred for life.

I'm actually hoping to have all the kittens shat by then. But I may have to improv a little should my pants start mewing. :p
I have learned that mostly none of what LG says makes much sense, and there is always talk of pie!

Expect to fail. At first. No comedian, no matter how talented, gets it right from the start and every time. People are going to laugh at you sometimes, with you sometimes, and start blankly at you sometimes. But, I suspect, you'll do quite well if you simply have the gallstones to stand before them enough to get the rhythm and the material just right. I look forward to watching you some day on the Tonight Show. Or maybe just opening up for a stripper.
Oh, and one more thing, no matter how bad the audience has turned and how upset you might be, don't ever starting calling people the N word and talking about how they'd be lynched if they'd talked to you that way in a different time. It's frowned upon.

He said it's his first time on stage. It's a big move. I've performed on stage quite a bit and it's huge when you're alone and people are expecting you to hit hard and fast. That's the difference between a known comedian and a starter. People give you the benefit of time when they know you. But when you're new, you have to hit fast and often. I'm sure he'll be fine with time and if he keeps his wits about him he may be fine this time, but he should be prepared to get knocked down a couple of times. It's part of the game.
Oh, I did learn that a poll should have at least 1 funny or ridiculous option.

I have learned that learning is overrated.
Gorgias was right, knowing what you're talking about is neither required, nor helpful, for convincing others to see your viewpoint.
mur whut?
i think it certainly helps to know about a topic before debating about it, debating helps you learn new information by engaging your brain, the people who flame usually lose out pretty fast.
But you do make a valid point you can get by with really good debating skills, and in essence yes most debates are about who can shout the loudest.
E.g. have you ever talked to someone and no matter how much evidence you give for your opinion or how backward their reasoning they just will not budge their opinion? I've come across that, and sometimes it's funny others it's just really irritating. ( could link this to the boo hooray theory made by logical positivists to allow debates on morality to continue in philosophy).
Of course not everyone who debates in a heated way is wrong and sometimes they are correct, but i prefer to give my messages in an open manner even if i am talking absolute rubbish because then i don't look quite as bad when i'm proved wrong (which has occured in the past), and you're more convincing if you make your messages friendly than if they're heated.
I've never managed to get across my opinion on a topic until i had adapted my arguments and speech to be understood by all people, and there is lots of confusion when chatting online too.
That sums up how i feel about posting online oh dear that was a bit longer than i intended.
The people don't think through their opinions, and they don't want to.

You will both be happier without the answer to that question. Trust me.

I googled them once, having no idea what they were. I didn't go back for a second look.
