I was just talking on another forum w/ a kiddie who thought Megadeath was "Hardcore". :(
So tell me true, what punk styles are you most into?

You sure he didn't mean hardcore metal? Hardcore can refer to metal as well as hardcore punk.

I'm a big fan of 80's East Coast US hardcore and proper Old Skool 70's stuff, though in recent years I've been turned onto a lot of decent skacore.
Also, I'm really into a lot of the 'proto-punk' of the late 60's, when rock and folk were playing off of each other, and the 'post-punk' of the 80s; the beginnings of grunge and suchlike.

Megadeth easily qualify as Hardcore Metal... That's probably what the kid meant.
Anyway, my favorite subgenre of Punk Rock is whatever the hell Husker Du qualify as... At this point in time, there are too many genres they blend together to form a label of even somewhat short length.

Hüsker Dü kick ass.
You sure he didn't mean hardcore metal? Hardcore can refer to metal as well as hardcore punk. And techno. Heck, here's the list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_hardcore_genres).

And techno.
*shivers* I'm not particularly happy with teh hardcore "techno" variant of music. If you can still call it music.
But I love the old skool bands like the Clash and the Sex Pistols.

Damn straight.
As an aside, I've always felt that genres like techno, breakcore, gabba, digicore and the like are 'natural' progressions from punk.
Old skool like the Clash and the Jam, but also the new rock (I think some might be offended if I call it punk) like Blink and Greenday, Sum 41 etc.

Pop-punk, but punk indeed (grudgingly).
So many labels, now even the fans don't know what to call stuff anymore.
Hilarious!
It is sometimes a bit silly.
But it's not as if that's any different in any other 'meta-genre' (sorry :p).

Well, that's what Bob, Grant, and Greg set out to accomplish, and they did it in spades.
I don't think I'll ever get tired of Husker Du, or the music the three have made since.

So, if kids are saying that Megadeth is Hardcore... what would they say about Sepultura? World Muzak? :D

Megadeth is the shit, and while thrash metal is influenced by hardcore punk (REAL hardcore punk, not that shit trying to pass for it now adays), they are not punk.
I like oldschool.
The Clash
The Ramones
The Talking Heads (maybe not totally punk)
and my favorite: The Sex Pistols
Im also fond of hardcore, like Discharge and English Dogs
But Im more of a metal guy.

why has Crust punk not been mentioned yet?!
though to be honest in strict case of what has the better scene I'd say dance punk

You know the funniest thing about that list. This:
"This list is incomplete; you can help by expanding it."
Anyway, on subject. Is there such a thing as post-core? I imagine that'd be the one for me. What the fuck does '-core' mean, anyway?

Or Rush, I'm sure.
;)
Personally I don't really like punk, although I admit I haven't really done my best to like it or search for bands that I like. I kind of like some of their DIY ethics etc but the music isn't my thing. I find it pretty bland tbh. (what I've heard at least)
As an aside, I've always felt that genres like techno, breakcore, gabba, digicore and the like are 'natural' progressions from punk.
Hmmm, I doubt it, techno grew out of house and it's predecessors afaik. I believe gabba grew out of rave. Digital hardcore, (ATR etc) was probably inspired a lot, if not mostly by punk though. Although I have to admit I'm hardly an expert and tbh it's probably really stupid to make this kind of 'family tree'.

Megadeath? Never heard of them. Megadeth, on the other hand, is definitley not hardcore.

hardcore punk!
Black Flag FTW
though some of the old Emocore stuff is good.
not the pop-punk stuff that's labeled 'Emo' like MCR and such.
Personally, I'm not a fan of poor musicianship and politically-ill-founded or redundant opinions, or valid ones being brought in in order to shift albums.

Dead Kennedys and the Clash for me. Both are interesting musically as well as full of very meaningful activism.

I wasn’t meaning that techno and the like grew out of the punk movement, but that, in my experience, many of those who listen to punk often ‘progress’ onto techno, breakcore and other hard dance genres.

Poor musicianship? What shit have you been listening to, pal?
Most Hardcore and Hardcore-related bands are made up of good musicians.

There is no genre 'hardcore metal'. There's metalcore/"new school metallic hardcore", but Megadeth sound nothing like it. ;)
Anyways, I'm all about the punk, especially the hardcore/crust/skramy/grindy type punk. Anyone like His Hero Is Gone? :D
Anyway, on subject. Is there such a thing as post-core? I imagine that'd be the one for me. What the fuck does '-core' mean, anyway?
There's 'post-hardcore'? '-core' is a random tag attached to genres that grew out of hardcore punk or hardcore techno. Grindcore, breakcore or whatever. Alternative is filled with '-core' and '-wave' genres.

...Husker Du...
On a side note, I read that Grant Hart of Hüsker Dü fame and some members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor were collaborating on a record.
Anyone heard anything about it getting finished/released? They'd be an ace combo.

Haven't been able to find anything on that... But it sounds like it'd be good stuff.
