German help needed (Trains)

Hey all,

As there are some germans on here. I need some help with some travel plans. I need to go to Koln-Bonn Airport this tuesday and when I was at the (dutch) station yesterday, trying to buy a return ticket it said it would cost me about 50 euros  Of which about 10 would be spend in the Netherlands. This means that the other 40 euros would be spend on the traject Venlo-Dusseldorf-Koln. Which is quite a lot for about 100x2 km. Are there any cheaper ways, or should I buy my ticket at the German Railway Ticket Machine (in Venlo)? I vaguely remember that it is cheaper that way when I did that in April '06. So, do you have any tips or advices for me with this?

Thanks!

How old are you? Or, if you don't want to tell, type in the age here (http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/dn?ld=212.8&seqnr=1&ident=oi.0226728.1201701528&rt=1&OK#focus) where the red arrow points to the box named "Alter". Don't know if that'll be cheaper.

On second thought, here's the page in Dutch (http://www.bahn.de/international/view/nl/index.shtml).

I'm 23, so fairly young. I'll check. I can read German (writing or speaking it is harder though) :)

From Venlo to Cologne should be about 16,80 €, according to the Bahn. I doubt that the price should change much on account of what day, so it should be the same when you travel.

Thank you :) I just booked it (hurray for the credit card I got 3 days ago :D) and I'll get in the mail, hopefully by friday, saturday or monday. Hell, I saw that I can just make it even by going on Tuesday morning :D

Danke Schon :) (Although it would've been very nice to spend monday evening in Cologne center with carnaval going on ;))

Welcome to the German language. It connects words together, just like dutch does. When we spell words seperately when it shouldn't we even call it 'the english disease' :)

Right. Any more that nonsense and I'll take you outside and whine in moderation.

In spoken Hiberno-English we often string words together by inserting "fuck","fucken","feckin","shaggin" and "poxy" between them as linkage.

But as a Dutch person you should know the NS likes to f*ck you up! Once I bought a one way ticket from Den Haag to Utrecht. That same evening I had to go back unexpectedly (otherwise I would have bought a "retourtje") and it was almost €10 more expensive! I complained to the nearest NS booth where they reacted like I was a moron or something. I bought the ticket, went back and slammed both tickets (the one I just bought and the one I bought in Den Haag) on the desk...

In the end I got the €10 back :p

It might be 'Nachtnet'? If it's really during the night (say, 2 AM) it might have other prices (I don't know, I never travelled with those yet, since they only arrive here since 2 months :p)

Nope - nachtnet costs the same.
Maybe one was with the 40% discount ?

Then again, even a full price ticket Utrecht-Den Haag is less than 10 euros. So it seems odd.

Nachtnet should cost the same as Alma Mater said. But the strangest (and rudest) part was that the NS guys didn't believe me at all.

Huzzah for the NS!
