Jeez...my Internet is slow!

I've noticed that in the past two days, my Internet has seem to be really slow. Also, I keep seeing the same kind of ads no matter what website I go to. They're the ads that talk about "System Error detected-Scan your PC now!" I have tried removing any Adbot or Spybot from my system using "Spybot Search & Destory" but the Ads are still there, and my internet is still slow! I mean I can't even upload pictures or go to Java run websites. I also tried using Window's Defender to scan for any viruses, but it hasn't really picked up any. I think this is most likely an Adbot or Spybot that is able to elude my scans for it, does anyone have any suggestion on how I can get rid of it or programs that I can try?

Honestly, the only thing you can really do is to save crucial files to another hard drive and reboot from the original CDs.
These days, I keep nearly all files on a 40G hard drive that I can carry around, I even keep most applications on there. I save very little onto my laptop.
It tends to keep my laptop clean and fast.

Download AVG Anti-Spyware Free and see if that picks up anything.
Spybot S&D is hopeless.
Try Super Anti-Spyware too

I had the system error detected popups a while ago and it was because of a particular trojan, here (http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2004-112111-3912-99&tabid=3) is how to fix it apparently. I know nothing about computers so this is possibly completely wrong.
Although in the end the only way I got rid of it was to get my new computer and wipe the hard drive of the old one.

Use AVG anti-virus and especially AVG anti-rootkit. Both have free editions and are far superior to anything from Norton or McAfee.

Well I brought the complete protection package ($60 US) so I hope you're right. It's scanning my machine right now.

You should do what I did: copy your computer into an unused portion of your brain, and then install an AirPort. The time lag between what you read, what you think, and what you type is eliminated.
Seriously, I have no idea what's wrong, I'm horrible with computers. In fact, I'm not sure why I'm even posting here. Oh well.

I hope that works :)

Well I ran the scan and it got rid of everything, I was surprised by how much my computer has accumulated in Virus, Trojan, and Spywares. But everything is running smoothly now. :)

I've also switched from Firefox to Opera. So far I like it. :)
