Not just a fantasy anymore, now people can be real Jedis! Thaks to The Temple of the Jedi Force! From their website;

Welcome to Temple Of The Jedi Force

The Temple of the Jedi Force is a religious community united in our mutual quest for understanding of the universe which we inhabit and the primal Force that set all creation in motion. Known by many names, the Force of Creation takes the shape of the divine and the spark of the divine within all living things. We do not discriminate based on race, color, sex, or religious creed. All are welcome as long as they have an open mind and share the communities belief in a Force or Universal Power that is the source for all of creation.

We are a community united in using our powers, mental, physical, spiritual and mystical for the good of ourselves and others. Our goal is to educate and instruct seekers of truth and knowledge in the mysteries of Jediism and how all religions relate to it's teachings. So that followers of this philosophy my find greater joy and self mastery in their lives. We share a path of enlightenment and seek to use said powers in a quest to understand our connection to the universe and each and every living thing in it. We are not role-playing the Jedi you have seen in Star Wars but are Real Jedi, in this Galaxy, in this Universe.

Jediism is both an old and new religion; we did the same thing that religions have done for thousands of years … we assimilated spiritual teachings from other and ancient faiths. Christianity, Humanism, Taoism, Zen Buddhism, Mysticism, as well as the honorable martial art’s philosophies; this spiritual mixture is potent. We call this fusion“ Jediism”. Please join us in our quest for understand and enlightenment.

Well, as long as they don't knock on my door to try to convert me and as long as they don't lie to, steal from, or kill their members, I'm ok with this, don't really care either way.

I'd be quite tempted to join. The thing is, if I joined, it would probably be because it's something rather exploitable. All you need to do is be wise and you're made into a Jedi Master. Somehow, that doesn't seem like the right thing to do.

Just kidding, but I'm okay with it, both as a human and as a sci-fi junkie.

lol old and new, contradiction much?
I don't mind, sounds crazy based on a few books and films, but what the hell you only get one chance to make a religion tailored to your own beliefs.
I think if i had the force though i'd get quite lazy, mind you it would be useful for pensioners and people having difficulties moving about, they could hover around or something.

As opposed to one book? OK, it's really a bunch of books pasted together; but none of the film versions have any official status; usually there aren't even any pictures in the book, what's up with that?

The glowing sword, convincing people these aren't the droids they are looking for, and telekinesis are the 'swing' of being a Jedi. Without that, it don't mean a thing.

I think it's even been longer than that. I seem to remember hearing something about it around the time the Shadows of the Empire novel came out.

My real issue with this site is that it's clearly looking to make money - it has signed up to Google Adwords and it openly asks for donations.

Regardless of the fact that it could not possibly teach anyone to use the Force, and I so wish it existed, it goes against any grain of being a Jedi to use it for profit.

This is merely the dark side of the force at work - hard to see the dark side is.... not in this case.
