Honest to god, I'm sick of this shit.

The National Organization of Women "slams" Teddy for his "betrayal." (http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/01/29/womens-group-slams-kennedy-for-betrayal-2/)

Obviously I support Barack Obama because I'm an evil misogynist white male. The way identity politics have been used in this campaign is ridiculous and inexcusable.

1) This was a statement put out by the NY-NOW. National NOW doesn't dig this whole "womenz must vote for Hilary" crap.
2) Scan feminist blogs. Note response to the NY-NOW statement. Hint: it's overwhelmingly negative.

I'm female, I'm a feminist, and that NOW statement is a pile of crap. Yes, women are people, and people fuck up some times. Feminist are also people. The author of that piece is both female and a feminist, and she fucked up.

We done now?

Besides the fact that you're reading my sentiments wrong...

I'm not condemning the feminist movement, I'm condemning how this campaign is being waged, specifically in regards to identity politics. I feel that this framework is being abused, much to the negative effect towards the American people and the political process. Further, this is not the first such time identity politics are being used this way in this campaign.

So, let's not let your identity as a woman and a feminist get in the way of viewing the ugly fashion in which identity politics have been used in this campaign, by both sides.

I CAN'T READ!

...the article. Dead link.

I'm intrigued now though. What exactly was so over-the-top and dastardly?

EDIT: Found it...yech! Yeah, I don't care if she's a woman, I just don't want Hilary in office. Beyond that, yes, I agree, this identity crap, voting for "the woman" or "the common man" or "the best Christian" is really getting old, and we haven't even started the election yet.

Maybe this will help.

What's happened is a chapter of the National Organization of Women is charging Teddy Kennedy "[Having joined] the list of progressive white men who can’t or won’t handle the prospect of a woman president who is Hillary Clinton," because Hillary Clinton is a woman. It's pretty straightforward abuse of identity politics, much like some of the other ridackulous stuff that's happened on the campaign trail (In both parties! Imagine that, identity politics playing a role in a Republican nomination race? I never!) this year.

Seems like politics as usual for Clinton's supporters. Even here, a board where I figured such crap was generally kept in check, the first question asked whenever someone states a dislike for Clinton is "so you wouldn't vote for a woman?"

It's only going to get worse as well. Look at the how the vote split along racial lines in South Carolina. Obama may have won handily, but it's given plenty of ammo for Clinton's racial politics crap.

We done now?Should we be done? It's a pretty despicable thing to say, and despite there being a good majority of women disagreeing with some idiots amongst their midst, there's no need to pretend like it didn't happen or that it can be discreetly swept into a corner and forgotten.
