It is almost February and teams are now 2/3 done with their regular season schedules. It is now a time when we can talk about which teams are likely going to play in March Madness. ESPN has already put out its first "field of 65 list."

MEMPHIS!!!

Hey it could happen. :D

Florida does not have the team this year. But hey. This is why they call it March Madness. Anything can happen. I say we wait to see how the Conference Tournies shape up.

Go Green, bitches.

You only beat us by three points at East Lansing, and that was with our star freshman on the bench with the flu. We would have beaten you if we had Robbie Hummel playing. Just wait until 2 weeks when you come to West Lafayette.

Everyone knows that Purdue has a huge home court advantage when they are playing in front of the 5,500 members of the Paint Crew. We had a huge impact in close games against OSU and most recently #11 Wisconsin. Mackey Arena is the loudest arena in the Big Ten. Teams fear going there because it is the only arena where every single Big Ten team has a losing record at. The media calls the Paint Crew "The Official Sixth Man" for a reason. We really do have an impact and every team knows it.

(The Paint Crew carrying Robbie Hummel off the court following the upset vs. Wisconsin. Try to find me in this picture, I'm somewhere in the mass of students. A fraternity brother of mine stole the ESPN banner and it is now hanging in my livingroom)

(Hummel gets lifted up by Nemanja Calasan as members of the Paint Crew jump the wall onto the court. My buddy Thomas is right there on the right side of it. He was one of the first on the court.)

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- There, in the midst of the sudden, swirling black sea, was the straight, sandy hair on top of Robbie Hummel's head. And then the young people from the Purdue student section -- the Paint Crew, they call themselves -- lifted him high enough above the court for anyone at Mackey Arena to clearly see his surprised smile and raised fist.

---

Their success has made Mackey a fortress once again. The capacity crowd for the Wisconsin game featured one of the largest, most enthusiastic student sections you will find in any college arena, all of them dressed in black shirts and aching for the moment when they could rush the court to celebrate.

THIS IS NOT MARCH MADNESS!

THIS. IS. JANUARY!:p

But MSU was up 16 points at one time, and up by 9 at the half. We should have won that game by alot more. Purdue has a good team now, and might have a very good team when the freshman grow up. But, with Neitzel hitting his stride finally, the Freshman (especially Mini-Kobe Lucas) finding their niches, and having lots of size and lots of bodies, MSU should win the big 10 easily. Indiana is the big competition. They have a few really really good players, but their depth is concerning. MSU has everything a true winning basketball team needs. They have skill, size, and depth. I could definately envision a Final 4 showing in March.

And Michigan still blows.

I'm really suprised how far Illinois has fallen over the past couple years. I mean, a few years ago they were one game away from an undefeated season. They were the #1 overall seed in the big tourney. They came within a few points of being National Champion.

And now? Below .500, not going to go to the Big Dance, probably won't get an NIT berth, and not a good recruiting class comming in. I'd hate to be an Illini right now.

Of course it isn't March yet, but with most teams having played 20 games, it is clear which teams are guarantees for the tourney.

I follow the Big Ten closely and say these teams are in: IU, MSU, Purdue, and Wisconsin.

OSU is probably in, but still on the bubble. Minnesota is unlikely, but they are on the bubble still. I would say NIT is a good possibility for them.

Iowa, Penn State, and Illinois are all NIT possibilities and have to run the table or win the Big Ten Tourney to even have considerations for the NCAA Tourney

Michigan and Northwestern can forget about it.

We played a very horrible First Half. Just remember that Calasan and the rest of the team could not hit anything to save their lives during the first 10 minutes of that game. We shot something like 15% during that span. We came back and made it a very close game. Had Hummel been in the game, we could have quite possibly won. Unforutnately, the game was much like the first half of our season. We lost by 3 points (something we have done 4 times this year). This was because we could not put 40 minutes of good basketball together until we played OSU. That win gave our 4 freshman the confidence they needed to win.

Either way, MSU @ Purdue will be a huge game. The Big Ten will come down to Purdue, IU, MSU, and Wisconsin fighting for the title. IU looks intimidating, but they have not played anyone.

Purdue is simply too young to make it down the stretch. In a few years, yes. Now, no.

I am just glad we aren't traveling to Madison because we would not win there. We can beat IU as IU lost to a UConn team which is a shadow of its former self. I think playing in East Lansing is more difficult than playing in Bloomington.

Bruce Weber is probably pissed about Eric Gordon going to IU. He would at least give Illinois a chance in some games.

Just a note, if and when Illinois goes to East Lansing, do a "Drive home sober" chant. It's a sick joke, but it really hits them hard as one of their players left a teammate for dead (he ended up living thankfully) after a drunk driving incident. That has to kill team chemistry.

Standing at one half game over IU: YOUR PURDUE BOILERMAKERS!!! Winning at Wisconsin on the road will be tough for us, but we should beat MSU on our home court next week. The Paint Crew is pitching tents on Friday to camp out for the Tuesday game. I hope the weather improves this weekend.

We beat you once, we'll beat you again. Assuming the refs don't have a Sequoia up their asses.

EDIT: Purdue- IU isn't on BTN, is it?

It's on ESPN. BTN is not really popular around here anyways. They show BTN promos during all of our games and the Paint Crew boos them.

Sorry to ask TSI, but how about Neitzel? He sucks every time he faces the taunting of the Paint Crew in Mackey Arena. Last year he had only 5 points. This year he entered with 14 ppg and only got 6 with few rebounds if any. Chris Kramer had him covered and the 5,500 students in the Paint Crew were heckling him all game long. It was great.

PURDUE BOILERMAKERS!!! 20-5 (11-1)! FIRST PLACE!!!

Oh and Robbie Hummel is a beast. If he didn't have the flu last month, we would have won at the Breslin Center.

...I hate you.

It's interesting that this was like the opposite of what happened this year at Breslin. Away team gets really far behind, looks like a blowout until halftime. Away team comes back, makes it a game. Home team pulls it out in the end.

One thing really good came out of the game, though. Kalin Lucas is a beast. He can create off the dribble and knock down open shots. He's like a short Kobe Bryant.

Well, we split the series. Could have been worse, I suppose.
