EA calling Fox on being biased. Not much hope for Fox actually doing anything other than sending in an apology that amounts to "We're (not) sorry, also, we're still right."
The comments make an interesting read too. The gaming industry is pretty rich, and you can bet they arent going to stand for the increasing amount of 'THEM VIDYA GAMEZ IS EBIL' talk that gets thrown around for a lot longer. It hurts sales, and hurt sales mean that lawyers get itchy palms.

Good stuff. Fox's report on Mass Effect was absolutely ridiculous. They obviously had no prior knowledge of the game itself, the diverse gaming culture, nor the ERSB ratings.

"You'll see full digital nudity and the ability for users to engage in graphic sex."

God they make it sound like a freakin' First Person Porno, instead of a Free-form RPG Shooter. From what I've heard, the most you see in those scenes (if you pursue them at all), is a gratuitous butt shot which is hardly revealing, and isn't any different from what you see on normal TV drama's.

EDIT: Right, I saw the entire report in the link below. Half a boob, you see. Half of a boob. And the entire encounter lasts 2 minutes. In a 30+ hour game. The opening of the report makes it sound like there's nothing but bad evil sex throughout.

I hope Electronic Arts unleashes a pack of rabid lawyers upon Fox news and pound the station into the ground. I've never heard so many lies in so little time.

If Fox thought they could manhandle the game industry like they everything else in their news bulletin, I think they're in for a big surprise.

That "Psychology Specialist" () is so damn condescending it's infuriating. Fox News as a whole is disgusting.

I like the bit the EZ guy has to say about Family Guy.
That last series was way beyond what should be considered suitable for children. eg. The episode where Peter files a complaint against his doctor for anally violating him or the one where Meg is obsessed with Brian and Brian tries to get out of it by saying him and Chris are busy that afternoon doing whatever it is Chris always does Thursday afternoon ("What? Masturbate? Wellll....okay but it'll have to be back-to-back").
funny as hell, yeah. But in no way suitable for kids to watch.

The Psychological Specialist, expert, or whatever title they used, makes me ashamed to be pursuing that field of study. Absolutely ashamed, just because I'm in the same field as that woman. I know what I'm talking about more than she does, because I can actually research what I've read and seen, not give a half-assed attempt at bashing a game purely for political reasons.

Her? Bullshit. Pure, unadulterated, raw, unabashed, unforgivable bullshit that would've been disproved given any amount of research done on the topic.

Just more proof that Faux News is just conservative propaganda and nothing more. Sad, really.

You know, those gamers are going to grow up one day. Not the pong generation. The 90s generation of gamers who are used to better games. I do wonder what will happen to Fox and the likes of Jack Thompson once they become a major economic and political demographic? Will they remain true to their roots? Or will they be manhandled into the world of video games being bad?

My hubby and I both are hard core gamers as are all of our children (5), spending 30+ hours a week at our keyboards, widescreen etc. While I can appreciate that Fox generally bears more than one view on many topics (we are from the days of one view fits all news and television) I am intelligent enough to be fine with disagreeing with what is obviously an opinion piece on a television station. To me there in lies the key, learning to think for yourself and not expecting your education to come from the tube.

Oh and we are the 60s generation. LOL

I found EA's response to be very professional, and I'm happy that they stood up for themselves, their product and the development team*.

As for EA being on the side of good...there is a saying:

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

EA, you stuck a thorn in FOX's paw, and for that I respect you. You stood up for developers and the industry as a whole, and for that I respect you. Know that I still do not fully trust you, you need to earn that trust. If you don't screw up Mass Effect 2, whenever it comes out, then you'll be all right in my book.

Until then, cheers.

[/dramatic]

*I mean seriously, it was so professional I felt like actually sending an email to EA complimenting them on their handling of the situation and that there were no hard feelings and lovey mushy goo and &%$#.

Fuck you, Fox. Full digital nudity? I wish. Could you, for once at least, just attempt to be journalistic source of information? You know, the kind that does research beforehand and presents facts accurately?

Nah, too hard...after all, reporting on reality would make you liberally biased, eh?

Perhaps so, but given Fox's apparent popularity in America, I believe you and your husband are more the exception than the rule.

A curiosity. With all the lies they spin out, including flat out slander against high profile political people, such as the time they claim Obama was schooled in a Madrassa in Indonesia, which was a 100% lie, one wonders why they are not flooded with libel suits?

Ah well, a lie can run around the world before the truth has even got its boots on.

I'm no law talking guy, but I remember hearing something about having to prove malicious intent for things like libel and slander. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if FOX were maliciously making up lies about everyone who isn't a rich white male republican, but nor would I be surprised that they're simply very incompetent.

I love that EA is doing this. EA didn't develop the game (EA acquired BioWare just as the game was going gold), and EA didn't publish the game (BioWare had an existing publishing agreement with Microsoft), but they're still defending it.

Sure, it's EA's IP, so they have something to lose should Fox sully it, but I'm impressed at the vigour with which EA is jumping into the fray.
