I have been reading the Song of Ice and Fire Series for over 3 years, each book over and over again. I am just wondering if any of you know when the when book 5, A Dance of Dragons comes out. or otherwise comment on George R R Martins series.:sniper::sniper::sniper::sniper::sniper::sniper::sniper::sniper::sniper::sniper::s

Didn't like it. I made it halfway through the first book twice before I stopped trying.

I found Martin's writing style terribly repetitive.

If you want something that genuinely does ignore literary conventions and does something original, I recommend Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast.

I don't know what it is about his writing that turns me away from it, but I find after reading a chapter at a time all I can think is "I've got another 500 pages of this x_x" So I can only read about one chapter a month.

I thought Martin's novels were quite good. Not the best, but still decent. I want to find out what happens next!

In about 30 seconds I can discover that it's unfinished, been expected for a while, he puts progress updates on his blog here (http://grrm.livejournal.com/) and that on wiki there are links to two samples.

The Internet's a wonderful thing.

lol thank you

I hated the books the first time i read them, but my friend schindles kept telling me to keep reading because they get better and less confusing, which i did, and they are awesome now. my problem was that in the first book their are nine different plots going on at the same time.

his game of thrones books rock but the recent one with the new characters was not as cool. I cant wait for more to come out in that series.

I read Gormenghast & it was the most verbose, pompous & tedious book I'd read since Dickens in high school. I hated it. I was really disappointed too, because it was highly recommended by a good friend.

Apparently he's got a bad case of writer's block & it keeps getting delayed. I've really enjoyed the series, because he's not afraid to kill off his main characters. They're not really the genre I tend to read, so I was surprised I liked them so much.

You don't think you overdid it with the gun smilies?

how odd, i rather consider tuff voyaging the great american novel of the 80s, as hienline's strainger in a strange land was of the 60s. (the 70s had too many to pick just one)

i've yet to read any of his fire and ice. cheap bastard that i am, i'm waiting for second hand ones to show up in the buy back paperback stores.

some of his wild card series was ok too.

i AM looking forward to reading his fire and ice ones though.
there was a wedding at a furrycon somewhere that was appearently in some way inspiered by one of them.

i like alternative tec gizmoes (and infrastructure) a LOT more then sharp pointy objects or things that go bang, i do like funkey, sans buildingcode architecture though.

i also like "strainge 'new' (to me/us?) worlds", with really trippy flora and fauna.

(something i wish there was a lot more of here too, those last two parageraphes)
