Ok so as I wait for a number of downloads to complete before I shut off and go to sleep a thought popped back into my head that came to me after watching a Daily Show short on Bush's visit to Saudi Arabia and the ABC interview of him. Unfortunately I do not have a link so if it's needed I'm sure all capable NSG will be able to provide. Anyway my point which I wanted to make was...

You know that the Bush family is close with the Saudi royal family, they give us oil we give them guns and stuff and lots o lovin'. Shortly before hand Bush met with the Saudi's to close a 30Bn arms deal before/after a 20Bn arms deal to Isreal. Seeing Bush's apparent 'pussiness' (for lack of a better word) at being asked to lower oil prices and his hard line with us or against us take on anything else has led me to a conclusion which I havent accepted yet. But am on the way towards provided I have enough to support it.

And that is that Bush, or America is Saudi Arabia's bitch. Think of it, they are invested in our Defense industries for God's sake and sell us at least 17% of our oil (I think that's a really low estimate on my part). They hate the Isrealis and the Iranians and couldn't give a shit to the rest of the Arabs (or so a Jordanian family friend tells me) so it seems they are only playing the US to their benefit and sitting back comfortably.

Kind of scary to think, right now I don't know, but Osama did come from SA after all and if that nation wanted to it really could help with a lot of MidEast problems. (and yes I realize the daily show is mostly comedy and cut the interview to prove their point but still)

Any thoughts on this?

We are not the king's pet. However, Bush is. An important distinction.

Yeah. The Democrats kinda suck at picking candidates. A robot and John Kerry? My dog is a better candidate. It's a mystery as to how the Democrats thought that a robot and John Kerry could win against a chimpanzee. A chimp that likes oil. And hated Sadaam.

This has been on my mind for some time but is there an actual open deal between the US and Saudi Arabia.

I mean, clearly, in return for guaranteed, uninterrupted oil and a vague commitment to keep prices down where possible, the US offers in return non-sanctions on arms-buying and a ban on negative statements by the government about Saudi Arabia no matter how regressive or oppressive Saudi Arabia gets.

So is there a deal on paper stating something to this effect? I'd say it must have happened during the OPEC crisis but I can't find an actual statement.

We didn't vote for the chimp.

I'll give you Kerry being a pile of dog crap, but Al Gore wasn't that bad of a candidate. He did win the election after all.:p

Technically, he didn't. Bush got more electoral votes. I guess the founding fathers were afraid of tyrranny of the majority.

The Saudis only sell us around 2 million barrels per day of oil. That's about 10% of total consumption; the main reason why we care about them is because they're the ones, or more accurately were the ones, capable of changing production enough to alter prices one way or another. They're also one of the single largest producers, of course, which means they still have a lot of market influence.

Plus, as the de facto leaders of OPEC, they have a lot of sway over the production decisions of around 40% of world oil production. Of course, there's a lot more to it than that (a detailed analysis of US-Saudi relations would fill up volumes), but these are some of the most basic reasons.

they dont give a crap about the Israelis, they view them as a counter measure against the Iranians and vice versa, except Iran is shia, as is eastern coast of saudi, and the goverment si a bunch of munafiqeen, if they werent they would not have opposed al el beyt, they dont give crap about other arabs, if they did they would have given aid to lebanon, palestine, iraq, jordan when they needed it, not pussyfooting around about conditions and shit, ik hope the royal family burns in hell
