The Mothman!

A creature that has been seen first in West Virgina, it's reported to be over six feet tall with wings that can fold behind it's back and it has red eyes. First sighted on Nov. 15th 1966 near an abandoned TNT Factory in Point Place, West Virgina. The TNT Factory seems to be the favorite hang out of the Mothman as it has been seen there several times. The Mothman was also seen in people's front yard and fields. The last recorded sighting of the Mothman was a few days before the Silver Bridge Collapse on December 15, 1967. The Mothman was seen on the bridge.

What was the Mothman, was it an alien from another world? Was it an entity from another dimension, or was it an animal that hasn't bee discovered yet, a rare mutant. Or maybe it was all a fabricated story created to gain a small mountain town some fame.

Personally the Mothman is real, I think it's either an Alien, or it's an entity from another dimension, I can't really comment much more than that because it doesn't seem to be as wide spread as UFOs, Ghosts, or Bigfoot.

I've heard of it. It's pretty dumb, but people can believe what they like.

I wouldn't surprised if this whole thing isn't a viral campaign by Raid.

Did Raid exist back then?

So that is what my Grandpa hit when he was driving through West Virginia. He even kept the corpse.

Do you want to see it?;)

Sure. :p

The Mothman is a very interesting subject in cryptozoology and paranormal studies. Does it exist? I don't know, who does know?

I've always wondered what connection there is between the Mothman and the Jersey Devil.

Given the sheer amount of stories of various strange forest creatures in world mythologies, I'd say the phenomenon is not just a folie à plusieurs or some other form of collective hallucination without merit. Perhaps the wilderness itself, through its isolating effects on the individual and triggers in our collective memory, makes us more susceptible to seeing things that would not be easily seen in an environment where we're distracted by more mundane thoughts and ideas.

It would make sense, though; what better way to encounter things outside of the realm of mankind than by going to a place where normal human civilization and activity is nonexistent?

Didn't they make a film about that?

I'd say it was hillbillies drinking too much moonshine.

But the truth is put there...

I've heard of different legends from different times and places, of things that come to warn... Bad omens and such.

If you have ever read John A. Keel's book you would know that is very unlikely. At the time the Mothman terrorized W.V. there was a wave of UFO sightings.

They'd have had to be extraordinarily busy hoaxers.
Not beyond the realm of possibility for hoax .... but a few items in the story are fairly scary and seem a little more difficult to attribute to hoaxers.

I don't know why, but this really cracks me up. I think it's the inclusion of "Personally the Mothman is real".
It's either a hoax or a hallucination kiddies. If something like this existed, we'd know about it by now.

Riiiight.... because UFO = aliens.
They call them Unidentified Flying Objects for a reason, and they could be anything from weather balloons to prototypes of aircraft.

Heard of it. Supposedly is like 7 feet tall, has huge winds, giant red bug eyes, and can run like 80 miles an hour. Just a myth. Like those people who saw oh I was completely alone, have no witnesses or evidence but I saw an alien. Still I'd be edgy if I lived there.

Speaking as someone who is 1/2 mythological creature, yes, the Mothman exists.
His name is Irving, actually, and he's a diabetic. I went to a party with a Chupacabra a while back, and he was DJ'ing the event.

Strange though, Richard Gere was there, and kept asking if anyone had any gerbils...

what better way to herd the 'free' slaves into cities where they can be watched and kept in line?
