The dirt in Centralia is not burning, nor is it even an issue of natural gas, its an anthracite(?) coal mine/deposit beneath the town which is burning. As far as I know, a simple mixture of gas and oxygen won't cause an explosion either, there needs to be some sort of spark.

We currently have a problem with thousands of tons of garbage left out in the streets of Naples. What if we dump that into the wells? We'd fill the former natural gas reservoirs, thus no oxygen-sucking vacuum anymore! Everybody wins!

After about halfway through the page I got fed up and just looked at the pictures. So hessaying all of North America could explode. Doesn't seem likely but I mean I suppose its plausable. Although that town had plenty of vegetation in 2007 so it burned out and there was no fire. Look at the picture, he disproved his own piont!
