Baby's Death Closed H1 Freeway West at Vineyard
Updated: Jan 17, 2008 02:21 PM

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- The H-1 Freeway westbound is closed from the Vineyard offramp while police investigate a crime scene in the area.

Witnesses said a man threw a baby from a pedestrian overpass near Vineyard Boulevard. The pedestrian overpass is closed.

The infant was thrown about 30 feet and may have been hit by two cars.

The baby was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:07 p.m.

Police shut down the freeway at Kapiolani Boulevard.

HONOLULU -- Honolulu police said they are investigating the death of a baby on the H-1 Freeway.

Witnesses said that they saw a man throw the infant from the Miller Street pedestrian overpass, but police said they are not sure if the infant was alive or dead when the man threw it.

Police said the suspect was taken to a local cellblock. They said that the man was wearing hospital scrubs and is 23 years old.

As the man was taken away by police, he yelled, "Thank you for everything" to KITV camera crews.

Police said they are not sure where the infant came from, and they are checking local day care facilities in the area to see if anyone is missing a child.

H-1 Freeway is still closed at Vineyard, routing traffic onto city streets. Major backups were reported.

Officials said they do not know when it will reopen.

I don't understand what motivates people to do things like this. Well, I understand, but I don't understand, if that makes sense.

If you don't want babies...don't make babies. What a novel idea.
Of course, I have no way of knowing if that was the reason why he dropped the child.

Since they're looking into daycare centers and such, they probably doubt it's his, actually, which is even scarier.

It's despiccable(sp?), for sure, but I'm not really sure it's grounds to call the person responsible inhuman or to call for their death without a better understanding of the events surrounding this.
Lynch mobs = bad, last time I checked.

that is frightening. that this person (dressed in hospital scrubs even) managed to get a child away from a daycare center or some other place.

Lynch mobs = bad, last time I checked. Sorry, but throwing a baby, alive or dead, off of an overpass onto a busy freeway is a rather inhumane thing to do.

I can understand calls for his death, however the important thing is that the legal process is followed.

Unless the guy had to either kill the baby or 10,(000) people would die, there is not really an excuse for something this horrific.

Aren't you both supposed to be part of that whole "Judge not lest ye be judged," "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone," school lof thought? Or did I miss the passage somewhere in your NT where Jesus said "Yes, kill anyone who does anything bad."

Quite honestly, it sounds like a psychological break. Maybe there was a miscarriage or something and the guy lost it, took the corpse, and threw it...at least I hope it's that, because that's a hell of a lot better than it being a living child that was murdered in this act.

Either way, it's pretty damn messed up.

I'm extremely amused that you take my disgust at your kneejerking as support for this person.

But you didn't really answer my question. Where in your bible does Jesus say "Go ahead and kill people who commit murder. I stopped an adultress from being stoned to death by shaming you into realizing that you're just as flawed, but hey, what do I know?"

You are condemning a man who, in all likelihood, is a psychopath or heinous murderer and who deserves to be put through the proper legal procedures. That's not the problem. The problem is that you're condemning him without really KNOWING anything about the case, beyond a pair of news blurbs. You don't know who did it. You don't know anything about the events surrounding it happening. And as repulsive an act as it is, it IS possible there were extenuating circumstances.

Oh, it's not all that sleazy. Actually NK cancelled his game, and now I have to work in earnest to salvage the Marvel game. I really do hope you find a way back on, because NK's more or less forsaken the site, and so without you there are only two people signed up for Spycraft.

Several witnesses saw him throw the baby off the overpass. is that being contested?

there is the question of wether or not the baby was alive or dead when it was thrown. (investigators are... well... investigating since this happened less than 3.5 hours ago.)

Should he be found not guilty by reason of insanity (which is possible) that doesn't mean it wasn't an inhumane thing to do.

Did I call for his death? no. I just inferred that he shouldn't be called Human. I didn't say he shouldn't be treated like a human.

But that IS the problem. Implying that this act has stripped him of his humanity implies that he should no longer be treated with the decency expected of human beings. It's a dangerous road to walk.

Some people are called 'Animals' due to their actions, but does that mean they are automatically 'stripped of their humanity'? no.

I can't wait to see what defense he'll use. maybe he'll plead guilty and accept his punishment... maybe not.

Follow the law, determine whether he was guilty, discern the motives. Prosecute and sentence accordingly.

There are plenty of inhumane things people do every day. One more person doing so is no grounds to throw out due process.

Should, by (my) definition, is what is not. Everything "should" be perfect, but nothing truly is.

What would be the point in killing this fellow? I certainly agree he deserves it, and I would feel sorry if he were put to death. But really, why should we kill him? Its cost would not be worth it. If possible it would be better to get him working hard labor.

Seriously?

Maybe this guy didn't do it, but there is absolutely no excuse for what was done here. I see nothing at all wrong with condemning this action based solely on the information we have.

Depends on which translation you're reading. for some it's Thou shalt not kill, but others is Thou shalt not committ murder.

But neither of which is the case of this thread since he is going through the legal proceedings.

Apparently, the child wandered away from the apartment before, and that the suspect lived in the same building.

The more that is revealed, the more disgusted I'm getting with some people.

when there were supposidly two people watching him...
