Father arrested for forcing son to wear Green Bay Packers jersey
January 17, 2008 PORTAGE, Wis. (AP) -- Upset that his 7-year-old son wouldn't wear a Green Bay Packers jersey during the team's playoff victory Saturday, a man restrained the boy for an hour with tape and taped the jersey onto him.

Mathew Kowald was cited for disorderly conduct in connection with the incident with his son at their home in Pardeeville, Lt. Wayne Smith of the Columbia County Sheriff's Department said. Pardeeville is about 30 miles north of Madison.

The 36-year-old Kowald was arrested Monday after his wife told authorities about the incident. Kowald was taken to the county jail and held until Wednesday, when he pleaded no contest, paid a fine of $186 and was released. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-disorderlyfan

Lunatic Fan.. I would have sentenced him to 500 hours of community work.

I have a better idea: Forbid him from entering the Packers' stadium for a year.

No, I have a better idea, have him do community service in the Chicago's Bear Stadium!

Interesting choice... I'm with the cops on this one, though: being a Packer fan ought to be a misdemeanor to begin with, at least. :p

That's just asking for him to plant bombs in Bear Stadium.

Burn the Packers jersey and force the guy to wipe Eli Manning's ass.

I never thought I'd meet someone in Wisconsin who doesn't like the Packers...

That is hilarious...I second the community service at Soldier Field option...with a requirement that Mr. Kowald wear a "Devin Hester" jersey while doing it. :D

I never thought I'd meet someone in Wisconsin who doesn't like the Packers.

I live in the middle of Cheesehead land, and I'm a life-long Minnesota Vikings fan.

Shocks people around here, lemmie tell ya.

As for the story...it doesn't surprise me. Similar stories occur from time to time, mostly kids ripping on other kids.

As for the dad, $186 was too lenient of a penalty...I like the idea of forcing him to do community service at the Chicago stadium. Preferably cleaning the Bear's locker room after each game. :p

I'd hate to see what would happen if the kid refused to play baseball.

Can't forget making him wear the Devin Hester jersey and a hat...might actually show him how "right" it is to force someone to wear a team's jersey.

I got a punishment for him! Remember the guy that is getting the Patiots Helmet tattoed onto his head? See where I'm going with this?

I think you guys have this one under control, but you're missing the 'curren't hatred. The Packers fans don't care about the bears (this year) they aren't in the playoffs. They should make the father wear a NE Tom Brady Jersey 'during' the superbowl :p

I was in Wisconsin (no I don't live there) just this last weekend (with my wife's family) and I just 'casually' mentioned how I was rooting for NE to break the record... :D Everyone wanted to kick my ass, even "grandma" LOL

Make him the lowest level grunge cleaner at Soldier field until 'da bears' win the Super Bowl.

Does this happen alot in NSG?
As in taking a news story and then passing judgement on what should happen, from my experience i've never had to sit in a jury to make a decision a sentance etc so it seems sort of disjointed from me, like arguing about a God or no God, where is the relevance to me or anyone else? Am i missing the big picture?
I suppose what i'm asking is, what is the purpose of this site to each individual who uses it?
To revise, to learn politics, to hear stories, to share opinions etc but what does it lead to with you?

Silence you, the answer is 42 and be happy with it. Don't ask what the question is, I won't tell you, that'll ruin the book.

I don't think its very fair for the father to be punished for his sons actions, surely he did the best he could?

I'd hate to see what would happen if the kid refused to play baseball.

don't be silly that would never happen

to post threads for your ideas instead of hijacking other peoples? ;)

He was punished for taping the jersey on his son, which is pretty much an asshole move from the beginning. I wouldn't make my kid wear my team's jersey no matter how fanatical I was about the sport, and frankly, we don't need any more stupid people doing stupid shit like this.

I would move to bar him from Lambeau Field (Packers' home stadium) for life for this. Not one year. Not for a few games. For life. Without the possibility of reconsideration. And to be forced to watch every "Superfans" SNL sketch on loop for 12 straight hours.

Also, schedule his community service hours to occur each year so that he misses the Super Bowl.

Yes. It's called expressing an opinion. One does it quite often during debates and discussions.

It doesn't need to be relevant, it's enjoyable.

and no one ever takes me seriously when I tell them the Packers are considered Gods in Wisconsin. They interupted regular programming to show a press conference on the Dallas loss the other day. 20 minutes worth of it. I love it but its getting a little out of control.
