What are your opinions on John McCain? I as of yet don't have much of an opinion on the man; I'm still reading up on all of his stances, but he seems saner than Huckabee and less duplicitous than Romney. Your thoughts?

My thoughts? The most sane madman in a room filled with madmen is still a madman

Is it that he's too old, or something else?

Eight years ago, he seemed like a politician that had a spine. It's as if he still had some integrity left. He seems to have sold it along with his soul for a genuine shot at the presidency.

No way am I ever going to vote for John "I have no idea what the constitution actually says" McCain, but at least he's no Huckabee.

A centrist senator with foreign policy experience - I think I have my candidate. He isn't amazing - I disagree with him on many domestic issues - but I figure that I agree on the issues he will actually affect. Namely, foreign policy.

He looks really old. I don't know anything about his politics, and I can't vote in America, but still, he looks old.

Aye. Foregin Policy is his strongpoint. What he needs to do is bring that mainstream Regan huge economic guy on board and make him visible because the economy's his weakest point right now, and unfourtunatley he has to make it past the right-wing nutjobs before he can stand in a general election :headbang:

It really sucks sometimes on the occassional chance that I'm a moderate Republican, simply becuase those fundamentalists have such a huge say. We really need more parties.

;)I don't mind Mc Cain. I'm a democrat and want to vote for Hillary Clinton, but I'm under age and can't vote. Too bad. Hillary doesn't need any extra help, though. She's on her way to the White House!

He's the best republican candidate so I hope he gets the nomination, so even if dems lose, it won't be too bad of a loss.

I feel as though a million souls cried out and were suddenly silenced.

I don't love any of the candidates, but I'll take McCain.

John McCain (along with the rest of the Government) turned his back on his brothers in arms left in Southeast Asia as POW/MIAs. I will not vote for him.

I'd consider him, but it's obvious from this poll that he suffers from multiple personality disorder (I know it has a new name now, but I prefer this one), and thus would make a poor Presidential candidate.

As you can see from the poll: "I AM JOHN MCCAIN!!! 4 14.29%"

One of the very few prominent Republicans I can respect, as a European Socialist.

His adamant stance that the US must not torture, in particular, is impressive.

Which is why when he was offered to be traded earlier because his father was a general he refused to leave without his brothers.

Ive heard those alligations you speak of, and I call BS. Especially after A) what happened in 2000 where nasty rumors were spread about him having a love child (that turned out to be an adopted child) and B) Other people in the same POW camp said it was BS.

I dont agree with him, but the man has integruity. Im not denying that.

I hope he and Obama get the Republican & Democrat nominations.

I'd say anyone who actually agrees that the constitution established America as a "Christian nation" is a nutjob of one sort or another, and they probably lean more right than left.

I wasn't talking back in Vietnam, I admire him for that. I'm talking now. Or rather when he sided with Pres. Clinton and Sen. Kerry to scorn all evidence that there were still POW/MIAs left behind.

Exactly so. McCain lost his way when he caved in to the Chistofacist like Jerry Falwell and Robertson, who he once called "agents of intolerance" and said were "corrupting influences on religion and politics". Now he's sweet talking up to them, and they are his "best friends".

Interesting, it seems that there are more Demorats than Republicans on nationstates.
Anyways, McCain... Probably not. Hillary has the leadership to be President, but I don't agree with her on many things.

In the end they're all politicians and shouldn't be trusted.

I, like many folks, have lost a good measure of respect for him, due to his caving into such groups like the PTL, and support of a failing administration.

That might have been part of LG's response "Times change." If i'm mistaken about his intent, i can say i most definitely agree with you there.

just another white male retardlican with his head typically up his ass on forign policy and immigration. his closest to redeaming value is his quixotic demand for popularity at something of supposedly his own expence. he's not the wost of the lot by a long shot, but he's no ron paul, who'se as close as any of them come to being worth a dam.

i forget what the one thing is i sort of half way agree with him on. he may appear to mean well in some conxet or another, i seem to recall there is one but i forget which one it is, but otherwise just another damd right wing loonie.

i'm pretty sure i'd even vote for hillary if she were running against him.
(r.p. vs hillary is the ONLY matchup i'd consider voting for an r instead of a demican or indie! and even then i probably wouldn't, but i'd at least consider it.)

I'm sorry but that is just one of those conspiracy theories that makes zero sense. I don't doubt that the Vietnamese (particularly irregular Cong units in the south) killed some prisoners that they never wanted to own up to, but this notion that they kept some alive, secretly, is a motiveless-malignancy story: the whole purpose of keeping hostages is to publicize the fact that you have them; there is no purpose to secret hostage-holding.
