Which Country Would You Like To Live In?

IL Ruffino

So of us hate where we live (ie: you). If you could live in any of these countries (and have the means to support yourself), which would it be?

I would have to say North America because we have so many freedoms and opportunities here that other countries, such as Canada, don't have.

strainge poll, strainge question. i'd certain rather live someplace with more little people sized trains, and less organized monotheism then any of the options mentioned.

maybe if all of those places were returned to indiginous administration or something. i don't know what kind of freedoms are being refered to, but building codes and closed borders aren't my idea of such things.

and making everything have to begin and end with symbolic value is the anti-freedom, or at least one of them.

now i can understand not taking idiology seriously, since its all political smoke and mirrors anyway, but geography is something physical that exists on the ground.

north america, the last time i looked, was the north of the equator half of the western hemsipher. no more then 1/4 of the planet's surface.

all of the other options origeonally posted were located IN it.

this seems to be about an indepdence vs enforce homogeniety thing. of concern primarily to people living in one relatively small regeon.

there are another 3/4 of earth's surface, not to mention a rather vast universe beyond, where some of us might prefer to live.

this being earth's internet, just as a guess, i would hazard, actually i'm pretty sure, there are rather quite a few ns'ers, already living in places other then north america, who have no wish to limit their choices to any part of it.

personally i have no wish to limit my choices more then any place in the universe where there are creative imaginative life forms my awairness can occupy.

further the question seems to be concerned more with politics then even earth geography, which i kind of wonder if the o.p. is even remotely familiar with.

in short the question no sense speaks.

No. Great Britain existed BEFORE England or Wales. Great Britain is the island. The combination of (England+Wales) and Scotland and Northern Ireland is the UK.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (commonly known as the United Kingdom, the U.K., or Britain) is a country to the northwest of mainland Europe. It comprises the island of Great Britain, the northeast part of the island of Ireland and many small islands.

I've always wanted to live in England.

Housing prices can be extortionate, and there is a fair bit of snobbery there too, last time i went down, but if you're there for the countryside and not the people it's not bad, but Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have better countryside.
It's from a Billy Connolly skit, he's Scottish so it must be true.

Exactly, even though Gordon Brown was born in Scotland, and Billy Connolly is very wierd (e.g. for one charity Billy Connelly promised he'd run through the streets naked if the public raised 1 million pounds, i don't understand why the public followed this request, but he went through with it, that's why he's wierd).

Well seeing as i've never been to North America, Mexico, Canada, i'd hazard a guess at North America, as the others are included in North America anyway. Okay i'll stop being annoying, maybe Canada for the snow.

Some of the best places I have ever been to in my life is the USA, and I think politics is a pretty retarded reason not to live in a country unless it will actually directly affect you. Therefore I choose the USA.

Housing prices can be extortionate, and there is a fair bit of snobbery there too, last time i went down, but if you're there for the countryside and not the people it's not bad, but Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have better countryside.

Why would you go for the countryside when England has London?

Why would you go for the countryside when England has London?

Well you might come from a city and be sick of them and want a change thus countryside looks like a good idea.
Also London has a few nasty areas(as most cities do), and it can be confusing where to go easy to get lost, and the traffic is charged (traffic congestion charges on top of the current taxes paid, to reduce traffic numbers) and traffic is slow in many places in London.
Of course there are some nice places to visit in london too, (at this point i've been reminded of that red dwarf episode where they get sucked into a wormhole, but time goes backward, so some of the gang think, "hey what's that sign say? Nodnol? where are we? Oh we're in Czechoslovakia aren't we? yeah got to be".(Nodnol is London backward, i thought that was funny).
But don't know them very well as London can be very expensive too for accomidation.

So how would you go to the interesting places in the first place?
Walking could take too long(and you might get lost), or you might not be able to walk easily.
This is why i propose instead of putting ridiculous taxes on congestion, you have a no vehicles in city for one day every year (barring emerceny services), then you could get about quicker on foot, and not have to breathe in car fumes when you're trying to find say Big Ben.

I hate to elaborate the obvious, but North America is NOT a country. North America isn't even just made up of Canada, the USA, and Mexico, for that matter. The Central American states are on the North American continent, which, if I recall correctly, ends at the Panama-Colombia border. Or at least it was that way when I was in high school.

Correct, it's like saying
"Would you prefer to live in Europe or France?"

Get the bus/train/tube.

The Bus will get stuck in the same traffic, the trains don't run through a city and the Tubes are usually packed beyond capacity

Bus lanes, walking in the most central area won't kill you, only at rush hour.

But most people live quite a distance from their workplaces in London and other cities, walking isn't always an option

Only at rush hour, and even then you don't have any less space than in your car, you don't have to drive, it's cheaper and it's quicker. Oh, and people are idiots.

And Canada. Get me out of that North American continent.

You think:
A train carriage so full that people can barely move, they're cramped, hot, uncomfortable and there's nothing to do but stand and try to elbow a way closer to the door

As for a car, it's warm (depending on the temperature YOU want it to be), there's enough room, you can listen to the radio and you have a comfortable seat.

And with regards to Rush Hour, most people are trying to get into the centre AT Rush Hour. If not then the roads are clear and the car (Unlike the train with constant station stops and delays) is quicker.

And Ever thought of Europe?

95% of the time you'll have more room on the train, 100% of the time you can also listen to the radio and often you'll have a comfortable seat and the chance to do some work or thinking or daydreaming or whatever you fancy.

And the car is always slower in London.

Europe is lovely in the right places - hence my support for London. But there's more moolah in America.

Yes. Pretty sure they did a race across London and despite their bias the car still managed to lose.

It might be, but unfortunately I'm not a statistic and I'm not going to find a lot of work in Qatar.

The tube was second last because they selected one of the areas of London the tube doesn't really cover and a very slow line. I wonder what the outcome would have been if they'd selected an area that was as inconvenient for the boat.

I'd love to live in most of the capitals. London definitely leads the pack but I think there is a lot to choose from - Europe just destroys America when it comes to good cities. There's only maybe three cities that I really like in America whereas each European country usually has at least one.

So you would choose Quebec as well?

North America has more freedoms and less ignorance, I couldn't possibly understand why you desire ignorance.

Quebecans would choke on their putains if they read the OP.

Or is it poutines, I always get my these confused and end up with some nasty cheesy fries.
stfu. Poutine is good. And despite the amount of it that the Quebecois consume, they are still probably healthier--on average--than citizens of the United States.

Quebec is a great place for several reasons.
-They are not fat! I went there over Christmas, and stayed for two weeks. I visited Quebec City, St-Jean-Port-Joli, Riviere-du-Loup, Montreal, and St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu. I saw a handful of people, and on average... they are healthy! They have five feet of snow, lots of wind, and it was -25C during the majority of the trip, but there were always people out walking. They even have a separate lane in the streets for them. They run. They ride bicycles. They go snow-shoeing or cross-country skiing.
-They are not fat! People in Quebec eat healthier things. Frozen pizza? Microwaved dinners? Not in Quebec. The dinner of Quebec is one area in which the French-Canadians display their French roots. Tongues are built for taste. They more often eat fresh vegetables and spend more time in the kitchen preparing real meals. They like asparagus. They like cheese. They like fresh bread from the local baker, not from Wal-Mart or Sam's Club. Perhaps it's just the families that I've observed, but compared to Quebec, we here in the United States spend much more time in front of the microwave waiting for our almost-instant gratification.
-They are not as wasteful! The Quebecois can recycle any kind of plastics. We can only recycle 1's and 2's. We can also recycle newspapers and glass. Here in Fargo, one has to even go to the grocery store if he/she wants to recycle. In Quebec, people can recycle cardboard, glass, aluminum, any kind of plastic, newspapers, and so on. Their recycling receptacles are the same size as their trash bins. They don't even have to separate it!
-They are not as wasteful! The public transportation systems of Quebec City and Montreal should be the envy of every city in the US. It is easy, efficient and inexpensive. The metro and buses are always full. Traffic jams? Not in Quebec.
-They are all insured!!! 46.6 million citizens of the United States are uninsured (http://www.cbpp.org/8-29-06health.htm). That's over fifteen percent.
-They don't have to go into debt to get a postsecondary education! I live in Minnesota. I probably go to one of the cheapest universities in the United States. I have to pay approx. $12,000 for this year, and I'm living at home with my mother. A Quebecois, on the other hand, can go to many schools for under $3000 (http://www.mcgill.ca/student-accounts/fees/tuition/citizenship/, http://tuitionandfees.concordia.ca/u_costs/arts_sci.shtml, http://www.ubishops.ca/general_info/prosp/mmatters.htm) and are still eligible for government-funded loans. Tuition in Quebec is actually the lowest in Canada.

So the society of Quebec is raising a healthier, less obese, more considerate, and more intelligent population. That's where my vote goes.
