The Evil That Is Facebook

So, Many years ago, I was 'attached' to a young lady. We didn't stay together long because I acted a bit weird and drove her off. Despite it being my fault, I was pretty devastated and it took me a long time to forget about her.

Well, recently, she got in touch through facebook. She's now engaged to a guy who is looks like and sounds like my exact clone. It's brought all the old feelings of misery, hopelessness and failure back out from wherever I'd buried them. Now I just wish she'd left me alone.

So, does anyone else stalk their ex-partners on the interwebs?

Nope.

But is it likely that someone stalks you?

Why the hell would I want to talk to my ex? He's a total waste of a human life.

Perhaps but if so they have not yet made them selves known. In fact I am on good terms with all but one of my ex's.

To gloat?

This is mainly what facebook seems to be used for in my (cynical) opinion.

Wait, so by asking "does anybody else", are you implying that you are now stalking her? (that would be bad, in case you were wondering)

A few of my exes have contacted me over myspace or facebook. Suspiciously, this always seems to happen right after they get engaged or married, and that's the main topic of their messages to me. Hmmm.

I just say "congratulations" and send a very polite note, and then I start ignoring their messages. Nothing good could come from continuing to stay in contact with them, but if you ignore their message completely, it looks like you're bitter. Just let them know they don't really matter to you anymore by being nice but uninterested. :)

When I have those feelings of embarrassment and failure from having messed up a past relationship, I try to console myself by remembering that I learned a lot from it, and I'm constantly growing as a person. The person I am now wouldn't make those mistakes. You'll always have another chance to get it right with someone else you care about. Maybe you'll find those thoughts helpful as well.

Why would I need to gloat when my old LJ account is still open with my scathing post about my ex displayed in all its glory for all to read? ;)

The stalking bit was my small attempt at humour. I'm doing my very best to ignore her now. In a week or two I'll probably be back to my old self again (unless she starts messaging alot).

I am a better person now so your way of dealing with it does appeal, but I still find myself awake at nights, regretting some of my past decisions.

Never stalked anyone myself, one person once tried to stalk me, but got burned (I got her IP-banned from the site she used for her stalking activities, by informing the upkeepers of her activities) so bad that I got left alone.

I haven't had the opportunity to accumulate any exes, but incidentally, the obvious solution for the OP would be to kidnap this man, steal/forge some documents and take over his life, methinks.

I have a better (more enjoyable) job than he does.

Besides, I'd have to marry her(the ex), and I really don't want to.

Sorry, Kz, but having read your posts for going on three years, and knowing how well you can write, I'd love to get even an expurgated version of you letting an ex have what he so richly deserves (even if it turned out he didn't deserve some of it!).

Wow, you people are savages! :D

I'll dig up the link for you... and you better be damn grateful! IT's taking me a while to find.

It's from 2003... I'm still piddling through 2004...

Ok, I've found them.

I have to warn you, these are pretty badly written. Written just before my days of NSG.

I forgot that I had a number of entries on this. NSG, this is the side you've never seen. And just for you, I took the security locks off some of these posts. There are more but I'm leaving them locked because I'm relaying highly classified information to friends who were targeted by an anonymous dickwad who first came to my LJ around the same time I got an email from some moron named "Agent Three"...

QFT in relation to mine. I like to think I made him a better person, but I doubt it.
I blocked him on my Facebook list and from my xanga. Let that tell you all you need to know about whether or not I stalk him.

I neither stalk nor am stalked, because I have no exes to speak of. As for future exes, I would neither be the still-friends type nor the vengeful axe-wielding ex-girlfriend from hell type, more along the lines of the "wait, what ex?"s.

Oh, and I don't have a facebook.

We only wound up dating for 10 months because a friend of mine stopped me from totally humiliating my ex after one month of dating. Basically, my ex asked for help with schoolwork, then when I tried to correct him on the same topic, he pushed my chair away. I was pissed, royally pissed.

I have had a few high school friends look me up on Facebook...and then start shamelessly hitting on me. It's amusing, but uninteresting. Mostly I stay on Facebook to set up meetings/study-sessions with crackbook addicts in my classes.

So, does anyone else stalk their ex-partners on the interwebs? Not me and hasn't happened to me, but a guy on another board I'm on had his ex-wife show up and flame the hell out of him in multiple posts. Now everyone knows that he ditched out on his child support, moved states, and started going by a different name...

"I can instantly deduce that when someone hears the name "Paris" in the same sentence with the word "date", jaws will drop, confused looks will cover faces, words like "How?" and "Why?" and "Quick, Bob, get the children in the minivan because the world is obviously coming to an end!" will immediately fly out of people's mouths."

It is a rare occasion I can quote the Gilmore Girls, but it fits. Just change out Paris and voila.

Holy. Fucking. Shit.

I was bored with nothing to do, so I decided to give Facebook a shot... And wouldn't you know it, I've found quite a few of my old friends on there. And I mean old friends, from way back in the early 1990s.

Thanks a bunch, Facebook... For those times when MySpace fails.
