I was 4 years ago or so ... I did a year but because of work situation and the time it took as well as moving I had to let that move to the back burner.

I did enjoy it while I was there and if things settle down for me and I can become a volunteer again while maintaining work obligations then I will absolutely become one again

I was a volunteer about five months ago on a remoted mine site. It was perhaps one of the better things I have done, it was good for building confidence and the like.

Well in UK i worked with someone who was training to be a fireman, but says the pay for them isn't great, and the risk of death is, well it's there, but it's good for building confidence, i imagine it would look good on a CV.
Go for it if you like the idea, if you don't like it you can always leave.
have a blast, oh sorry i mean a good time.

20 years on the line. Started out as a Public Safety Officer (police/firefighter/ems). When we went back to traditional departments, I went to the fire department as an engineer. Made Captain, and worked my way to shift commander, about to make Battalion Chief before I blew my knee out on the job. I am now a 9-1-1 supervisor.

I still miss the rush of fighting fires. Like my wife loved to tell me "You guys and gals are running into buildings that people, rats and roaches are running out off".

aye, i was watching one of those house makeover programmes a while ago where there was a guy who had an "understated" version of that haircut (i.e. about 1/4 the length and not bleached) and he was dressed like a typical no-style geek. the look was so incongruous i couldn't help but laugh.

people used to call me firestarter though, cuz i used to spike my hair up but cuz of the way my hair falls and cuz i never took it too seriously it used to end up looking exacly like his but without the shaved bits. and my hair is orange.

but that tune is awesome, my favourite prodigy song i think.
