I've heard that addage tossed around quite a bit by political pundits, but sometimes I wonder if it's just because McCain appeals to news reporters. I was wondering if you guys think that's true.

Well if by Moderate you mean he's a Republican who does not come off as insane, and is a man I can respect then, yes I suppose McCain is a Moderate.

Moderates? Who cares? :p Remember '04?

Seriously though, if you don't remember '04, the lesson was: motivating the partisan base is far more important than wooing moderates, even if some amount of effort should be put toward that end.

Probably not. For all his talk; he seems to follow the will of the party.

Ah yes. The Karl Rove doctrine. "You only need 51%."

Ain't nothing wrong (or undemocratic) about activating your base. ;) Although I think Rove will be known to history more for his McNamaraesque data crunching more than anything.

If the Republican want to appeal to the Majority of the people, they need to select Mc.Cain. Anyone else will just only appeal to the Republicans. If the Democrats win, they need to select Obama. The goal of General Election for all parties are to appeal to as many people as possible.

How about a McCain-Giuliani ticket vs a Obama-Clinton ticket?

If anything it would be a McCain-Huckabee ticket.

Giuliani appeals to moderates!?! I think that terms is becoming overused... If by moderate you mean far-right islamophobia... sure.

McCain doesn't appeal to news reporters. Rather, the news is pushing McCain, Giuliani, Obama, and Clinton on us while the others are basically sidelined (Edwards, Thompson, Paul...)

McCain doesn't appeal to moderates or liberals because of his stance on the war. He doesn't appeal to conservatives because of his opposing tax cuts and working with Teddy Kennedy on amnesty bills.

In short he doesn't have a chance in hell of winning an election. As a registered Republican he sure as hell doesn't have my vote.

Nah, if Clinton gets the Nomination, the Democrats will lose, even if she's just VP, they'll lose. She is just too polarizing for them to get 50% or over.

Lol, I didn't say that would be a winning ticket for the Dem's.
