Still think there won't be a war with Iran?

And of course, aside from Paul, Kucinich, and Gravel, none of the candidates intend to do a damn thing.

I'll get to lobbying those numtees on the green benches. If they're going to drag us into another untenable war, I'll make sure his office is so spammed up he can't move.

The Iranian "provocation" in the straits of Hormuz has set the stage for a new "crisis" manufactured wholly by the War Party, the rationale for which is uncritically accepted by our passive "mainstream" media. We are expected to believe that five minuscule speedboats "menaced" the USS Hopper, a destroyer armed with missiles; the cruiser USS Port Royal; and the USS Ingraham, a frigate. That's rather like five gnats "menacing" a trio of elephants.
he certainly sounds like he knows what hes talking about doesn't he?

Eugh. Extremely smug leftie drivel alert.
Oh, incidentally, we can't really do fuck all about it if they do want a war, so there we go.

Iraq was ridiculously unpopular, so hopefully this time the Labour government will decide to listen to the people. I also doubt that any bollocks about weapons of mass destruction will be believed, especially since what happened last time.
The Iranians would have to do something stupid like blowing up a US warship, and even then I hope those sorts at Westminster will think long and hard before deploying troops overseas.
On top of that, it'd be incredibly difficult for the MOD to scrouge up troops for such a war, what with the war in Afghanistan still going on and the Iraq occupation.

Hey, a Bristolian! How's life just down the road?
As for Labour listening to the people...*cough*EU CONSTITUTION*cough*.
Yeah, I'll get something for that.

Maybe, just maybe, this was perceived as threatening because this (http://www.lockport-ny.com/images/USS_Cole_Hole.jpg) happened just a few years ago, and it was done by an even tinier, shittier boat.
EDIT: Oh, and unless the Iranians directly start it, there won't be a war with Iran within the foreseeable future.

I'm not in Bristol at the moment - I'm attending Uni at Reading. The centre of Bristol is having a bit of a make-over, and we also missed out on the Arena we were planning on having. We're almost entirely devoid of any culture at this point in time.
I did notice the EU Constitution slip through this past month, but no-one appeared to be too fussed this time. Admittedly, I'm not a Eurosceptic like some.

Quite.
Eugh, I hate this article in a large way.
In any event, this is a provocation, all right – on the part of the Bush administration. As our president travels to Israel, the fulcrum of our policy of Mideast expansionism, there can be little doubt that this is all part of a carefully stage-managed effort to portray Iran as an aggressor – a scenario made doubly ironic when one considers that the U.S. has sent two aircraft carriers into the Gulf and has massed 150,000 troops in neighboring Iraq, where Washington accuses the Iranians of "interference."
We, of course, are allowed to invade countries with impunity: but Iran, which shares a long border with Iraq, and has close political and economic ties with the Iraqis, has no right to secure its own interests in the region. Israel has the right to defend itself: that's the mantra we hear without respite whenever the Israelis take it into their heads to launch yet another "incursion" into the Gaza strip or invade Lebanon – but the Iranians have no such reciprocal right, even a few miles from their own shore.
Funny how that works.
Smug-ety, smug, smug, smug.

You're even closer then! That's too bad about Bristol, I like going there. Still, it'll all be done with eventually. Mind you, being in Reading, I'm pretty sure being devoid of culture is no surprise. ;)
As for the EU constitution - ratification to come yet. Don't get me wrong, I like the EU in some ways, but in others...sometimes sovereignty is a good thing.

Reading... Reading isn't bad. It's not quite as good as Bristol in my mind, but then it is home. I've not really been trying to find much culture in Reading, frequenting pubs'n'clubs. Even then, I've only been to a few, but I tend to go to those few often. I really mean to try out a few more pubs, as there are apparently a lot of good ones in the area.
I think some of the more stupid things that have been coming out of the EU have been the bans on using certain names for products. They were attempting to place a ban on the use of the term "brandy" for anything that isn't made out of wine, even though that would be a huge blow to the apple brandy industry in Somerset, as well as others about the continent.
Anyways, enough of the threadjack :p I'm sure Mr/Mrs Imperio Mexicano doesn't appriecate it.

The Israelis would kick the shit out of Iran, much less just the forces already deployed there from the US. That's why it's so hilarious whenever they start threatening people.
This is the same Iran that at the height of it's power couldn't defeat Iraq, who got an ass kicking of incredible magnitude in a matter of weeks by the West using only air and sea power.
That anti-war site's column is just suicidal stupidity. In an age where suicide attacks are the most effective tool and someone sends you a message like that. It's unbelievable that someone could be that stupid and naive. That's why the dominant animals thin the herd, it's the counterparts of people like that. They have no time for that kind of fatalist stupidity.

I hope not.
I know little about the specifics and capabilities of the ships involved but this article is grossly underestimating the effectiveness those "gnats" could have against our ships and overestimating the power of ours.
Though somehow I doubt the tune would be much different if, say, there had been an attack on our vessels.
