So I went and spent 6 € on that movie. I was partially disappointed. The first ending was ... ugh... worthy of a B-movie describes it well.

Anyway, there was a lot of random killing. Only then I realized, it wasn't random! The aliens and the predator (and to some extent, the US military) are the agents of the Authority, delivering death and damnation to the wicked.

Judging from the people dying, I managed to glean the following important moral lessons from the movie:
- He or she who has premarital sex shall be put to death. >=(
- He or she who falleth in love with someone that did... is OTAY! =D
- He or she who handles guns whilst stoned shall be put to death. >=(
- He or she who handleth guns (or other weapons) whilst not pregnant, juvenile, or ill of health is... OTAY! =D
- He or she who makes use of the healthcare system shall be put to death. >=(
- He or she who is just following orders... is OTAY! =D
- He or she who abuseth their employees shall be put to death. >=(
- He or she who bullieth shall be put to death. >=(
- He or she who bullieth and happens to be black shall be put to death. First. >=(
- He or she who claimeth there are no monsters shall be put to death. >=(
- He or she who doesn't supporteth the troops... is OTAY! =D
- He or she who taketh their child hunting shall be put to death. >=(
- He or she who offereth to take a grieving woman into their own home shall be put to death. >=(
- He or she who heedeth the words of the government shall SURELY be put to death. >=(

In all, I found it weird that the predator no longer went for armed humans, which was what predators were all about. Anyone else have similar reactions to the movie, or did you have the good sense not to go watch it?

I had the sense not to see it. Honestly, it's like filmmakers these days have a specific goal of taking all my childhood movie fantasy icons and ass-raping them. What's next, the Hobbit versus the Terminator?

Nah, I was pretty satisfied with it overall, I expect nothing less than a mindless bloody carnage (even in the hospital).

Nah, I was pretty satisfied with it overall, I expect nothing less than a mindless bloody carnage (even in the hospital).Considering how many taboos the carnage was breaking, I'm surprised you didn't get to watch the Predalien eat the babies in the maternity ward.

No, no. That involves too much of the book plots, which are too complicated and un-movielike to work in film.

I mean Sauron is really Bilbo's father, and Frodo's grandson invents a time machine which falls into the hands of the fallen ringwraiths (who will now be the main enemy of the movies, at least until Sauron gets resurrected by the magic of quantum mechanics in Lord of the Rings 7). Naturally, the time traveling ringwraiths recruit the Terminator, and maybe the Predator too, and there's a big explosive battle (Helm's Deep 2) in which Arnie single-handedly defeats a horde of angry time-traveling dark hobbits.

These rules are the finite rules regarding horror/scary movies. Watch the Scream Trilogy to get all the rules, but it's all there.

As much as I thought this film was a crass exercise in lowest-common-denominator splatter cinema, it helped me immensely. I had recently been tempted to date someone else and was agonizing over it because I am very happy with my current GF. I'll be honest, the temptation is an order of magnitude hotter.

Point is, new woman wanted me to go see a movie with her and her sister + sister's husband (avoiding looking like 3rd wheel donchu know?). New woman ate this movie up, whereas I sat there predicting just about everything well before it happened and laughing at the sheer fromulacity of it all. I seriously tried to let my inner mouth-breather out to enjoy the sheer CGI splattertasticness of the film, but I couldn't. I am now even happier with my GF because I've been shown that, in line with my expectations, someone who genuinely cares for you is instantly hotter than someone with a smokin' body and no taste.

Sorry if that sounded pretentious and arrogant, but that's how I felt, and I've not yet lied to NSG. Why, I don't know.

I doubt body armour is usefull when Aliens and Preds are fighting, you'll get shot as trophy, used as carrier mom for a Xenomorph or they'll just killyou at random.:p

And while not everyone with body armor survives, one person that nearly got killed at random actually does, albeit it strikes me as odd why the body armor helped, seeing that it didn't prevent the alien barb from going through...
