I've had it in the past but I don't particularly like the taste, nor am I interested in getting drunk. I'm iffy about drinking caffeinated or carbonated beverages...let alone alcoholic ones. I promise I'm not as boring and up-tight as I sound. I'm 20, and yeah in the US drinking age is 21. I hate college parties, though I have to say it's a lot more enjoyable when it's not a bunch of straight guys...

I drink beer (Erdinger or Guinness) if i'm in the pub , which should always be the preferred venue, wine if i'm in the flat (white mostly), and spirits before I go to a club (although I never buy alcohol in a club. I prefer to just get suitably drunk beforehand)

It's painfully expensive to drink in a club anyway.

"Never" is closest to the amount of alcohol I drink. I don't think a sip of Communion wine a week really counts. I'm underage, and I won't be able to drink on my 21st birthday because it's during the week -- actually, it's a Monday. Hmm. Almost an excuse to drink, though I can pretty much guarantee I won't.

Ireland has the highest rates of binge-drinking in the European Union, a survey exploring attitudes to alcohol has indicated.
Finland and Britain came second and third in the Eurobarometer survey.

In Italy and Greece, by comparison, only 2% of people said they did binge-drink - defined as having five or more alcoholic drinks in one sitting.

Pathetic.

binge-drink - defined as having five or more alcoholic drinks in one sitting.

So if I have 5 beers in a 12 hour session/sitting - I'm "binge drinking".
Who came up with that definition? A teetotaller did, that's who.

I used to drink a lot. Specifically, from the age of 15 until I was about 32 I would be out drinking most nights, sometimes to excess, and sometimes just a few pints. Since then I find myself drinking less and less.

In fact, since the smoking ban came in in March 06 I doubt I've been out drinking more than a couple of dozen times, all told.

I got very drunk when i was 15 (in front of lots of relatives and family, who were also pretty drunk), had a massive hangover then didn't drink much until i was 18.

I'm usually the sort of drunk who's very happy, and give most of my booze away (then it's all gone and i get really pissed at giving it away, i've learnt that lesson), the funniest time i had was pretending to do military drills through the streets (after playing call of duty 4 while drunk), very funny, to my more sober friends.
But one time a horrific hangover, and thought i was going to die, absolute murder, i tried drinking water spewed it up, tried taking painkillers, spewed them up too (urghh), then i was about to get a taxi to a hospital, but was too out of it to walk far, fortunately a friend helped me go for a walk and a drink of high caffiene sugary juice, i was better then.

I've always drunk far less now since then, i never want a hangover like that.

EDIT: hold on, why should people post if they're underage? dodgy ground there mate.

I've had the sneaking suspicion that the government will try to do something like that sometime soon, but I was also assured that there would be blood on the streets if they did try something like that. Admittedly, I think the person I was talking to was drunk at the time, as I was.

The fist time I drank was at 12 I think but that was an exception, it lasted a few year until I became a more regular drinker because 12 is way to young obviously. When I was 17 and 18 and 19 I drank a lot, without it ever being problematic except for a few incidents, but I never got into fights or anything and I didn't annoy many people and I wasn't addicted, so no real problems. Nowadays I drink less, I don't know why, but being drunk is getting old and I'm finding drunk people more and more annoying and I don't want to be to hypocritical.

Really??To run for any house of parliament here you only have to be 21 and president is 35 but the taoiseach is head of government so...

What country do you live in??

Italy, man, as stated in the sig.

Here the age limits are:
14 for sex (with lots of limitations about age difference between the partners)
16 for cigarettes
18: coming of age for most of things (cars, guns, marrying, sex, voting for lower house, voting and running for local elections, referenda)
21 for some minor things (trucks)
25 to run for the lower house and to vote for the higher house (senate)
40 to run for the senate
50 to be elected President of the Republic (there is no "run" as the President is elected by the Parliament)

nope. not because i want to be a saint or anything, but because i feel no motivation to do so.

why? because emparing my judgement does nothing to provide gratification and my imagination does. and empairing my judgement does nothing to enhance that either.

about the only thing, other then yes, it does empair my judgement just like it does anyone else, it ever has done for me, was to make me feel more relaxed arround other people also doing so.

but that in turn never did anything good either, just got me a lot of rather annoying company. which also gratifies nothing.

so to each their own. enjoy enjoy if you do. but i can live just fine, and happier, without it, and do so.

it was something to explore when i hadn't yet done so, and i did.
and that was that.

Ah, Bristol Cream. Good stuff. As to Jäger - not such a fan, but it's one way to get plastered without resorting to Absinthe.
I have to say I really enjoy the taste.

The first time I drank, I was 16 and underage. The first time I got drunk I was 16 and not underage.
After that I didn't really drink until I was 18 and in my first year of university and I was only underage for two months until I turned 19.
I drink socially mostly, although sometimes on a hot day I'll come home and have a nice cold beer even if nobody's around.

16, and I voted sometimes. I'm not underage(Denmark), and I'm not interested in getting drunk. I just enjoy a good glass of wine or beer from time to time.

I put down regularly, because that's what it was until just recently, since I moved it hasn't been too often. I used to go out at least once a week usually two or three times. Can't remember when I started drinking, probably about 16, which is underage in Britain depending upon the circumstances. I drink for the taste, a mix of higher class vodka [and Smirnoff barely classes as vodka], whiskey, and absinthe.

I'm 19 and live in the US. I drink occasionally, but I haven't gotten drunk for a very long time.

The first time I did, I was 17.

I've never gotten behind the wheel. Never will.
Speaking of that, did you know a DUI counts as a felony in Canada? Meaning if you've had one in the United States, Canada won't allow you to enter.

yes there are many (and bound to be loads on the internet).
1) don't drink as much (but that's pointless in your case).
2) Take a painkiller (not too many as alcohol will mess about with it, but it helps the headache).
3) Go for a walk, i once had a hangover (i explained this earlier).
4) Drink some caffiene hit of say coffee expresso or some sugary drink.
5) Just eat soup to begin with, it's marvelous stuff, it's good for you and it's not too filling for your stomach.
6) if you have it pure oxygen (not too much, read instructions before breathing in) it can practically knock out a hangover with one breath and a vitamin pill.
7) A hangover is essentially your body with not enough water in it, it's dehydrated, your stomach might be full, so going for a walk or exercise is one of the main things, and some water helps too.

I'm not a medical expert but those are good guidelines i try to follow.

Caffeine is bad after a hangover, it will only cause you to dehydrate more. I don't see what pure oxygen could do against a hangover. Walking also doens't help, but it might make you feel better. My advice would be to drink a lot of water and eat soup or fruit or drink fruit juices (but only if you're not about to puke). Walking, brushing your teeth and showering also can make you feel better (and the last ones might be nice towards your surroundings). Other than that you can only wait till it's over.
The best thing you can do is staying sober though, the next best thing would be to drink lots of water between alcoholic drinks or if you forgot after the drinks.

2) Take a painkiller (not too many as alcohol will mess about with it, but it helps the headache).

DO NOT take any medications that contain acetaminophen (like Tylenol). When combined with alcohol, they could cause liver damage.

4) Drink some caffiene hit of say coffee expresso or some sugary drink.

Caffeine isn't a great idea, since it can contribute to dehydration, but it is a good idea to have foods and drinks that contain fructose (like fruit or fruit juices) because there's evidence that it might help your body burn out the remaining alcohol in your system.

Water, too. LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER.

5) Just eat soup to begin with, it's marvelous stuff, it's good for you and it's not too filling for your stomach.

Particularly soups that have lots of sodium and potassium. Drinking alcohol can deplete sodium and potassium in your body, and replacing them will be helpful.

6) if you have it pure oxygen (not too much, read instructions before breathing in) it can practically knock out a hangover with one breath and a vitamin pill.

I've never heard of that working. Oxygen does get you high, and getting high might make you feel better, but I doubt it will actually do much to take care of the hangover problems directly.

7) A hangover is essentially your body with not enough water in it, it's dehydrated, your stomach might be full, so going for a walk or exercise is one of the main things, and some water helps too.

I don't know that exercise will necessarily help, particularly since exercise can cause you to sweat which will further deplete your salts and contribute to dehydration. But water is a MUST. Gatorade is magic on hangovers, too.

Thanks, i didn't know about the caffeine effects on hangovers.
As for the pure oxygen, well my dad worked at a hospital(i think he was a counselor or something like that) and came in late one day, looked like hell, his boss said come here i'll fix that, gave him a vitamin pill and oxygen, and he said he felt fine after that. But i don't think that would be allowed now (considering potential dangers of pure oxygen) and of course my dad could have forgotten about the exact happenings after.
I knew about drinking lots of water.
I think exercise is good for hangovers, it gets your metabolism going faster with more blood pumping around your body, more oxygen flowing around to the deprived areas, and helps your brain consentrate after. But i understand that sweating could be a problem, and to be honest i never really feel like exercise after drinking.

I thought i'd add another post to this because i am suffering from a hangover now, probably drank too much, but one guy i went out drinking with said he drank a whole 70cl bottle of Vodka in one go, plus other shots, then he drank a little more with us, but had a chinese and lots of fruit juice before recommencing drinking. I was shocked, what a nutter, what a waste of Vodka, and the fact that now he needs to spend at least £50 on booze before he gets drunk. He's Irish too. But i wouldn't recommend doing this... ever, pretty stupid thing to do.
ur my head

Again i'll say i'm no health expert, but not drinking at all or less would reduce effects of a hangover.
Thanks again Bottle i think i'll have some soup following your advice (in fact i printed off your post, very helpful).

Oh and one more thing, i usually wake up early after drinking, i don't know why i hear about other people who just sleep for ages, but i don't so i'm wondering why this happens, i've got a hunch it's to do with my body crying out for water and waking me up, i don't know.

The antioxidants in citrus fruits and tea will help a bit, especially if you've been drinking red wine or anything else with a dark natural colour or artificial colourants(alco-pop type things). Though they'd be of more help while you're drinking than the morning after.

But yeah, your best bet is water and lots of it.
