How Independent are you?

Looking back on my last failed relationship (the clingy insecure woman who wanted to get married right away.) I noticed something about myself which could contribute to the failing of the relationship. I am a very independent person. I like to maintain my own identity, still be able to do my own things (mostly when I want to) and I basically hate being told what to do. She was apparently the exact opposite, which irked me very much. I don't think I really had anyone dependent on me before, and apparently I don't like it heh. Yes I do have a cat who I take care of, but cats are pretty independent themselves (at least they act like it.) I don't know, I guess if I ever enter into another relationship, it would have to be with someone else who is also independent.

So how Independent are you guys? Do you consider Independent loners, or do you just absolutely need someone to cling onto?

I am completely independent. Which may be a reason why quite a number of folks seem to want to cling to me. Although I do appreciate that (and tell the respective people) I would rather keep my independence. In turn I also give everyone who I love as much space as possible, and I think that's what love is about: doing what's best for the one you love and not what's best for yourself. ;)

I seem to just stick what is around me to my own ideas though I do seem to have a great deal of influence over other people (the fools!)

She was apparently the exact opposite, which irked me very much.

this makes you independent? :p

Independent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schizoid) or Avoidant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avoidant_personality_disorder)?

A little from Column A and a little from Column B. *nods*

well i'm not emotionally dependent if that's what you're asking. although it's nice to give and get hugs once in a while. but i don't feel anyone needs an exculusive on anyone else to do so, or should need that in order to anyway, if we lived in a culture that wasn't all ass backwards.

i wish i didn't live under a tyranny that prevented everyone from being able to not have to depend on each other physically and economiclly

I used to be entirely independent. Then I became a little too dependent in my last relationship... and now I'm doing the completely independent thing right now. It's working out all right for me so far. In fact, I'm pretty happy right now. It's nice. :)

I'm fairly independent, I dont need my partner there the whole time, but it would be nice!

Though saying that, I do need my own space a lot of the time so I would say I'm a medium independent!

I happen to be a very independent person. The idea of having to depend on others frankly scares me.

I'm an independent, but I tend to lean third party.

I am strongly independent, although I do need a certain amount of social contact to be happy. However, if I have a serious goal, there's virtually no one or nothing on Earth that can stop me from pursuing it.

Independent enough to not have relationships at all.

Independence is overrated and would lead to failure in the modern world. Interdependence is much more useful. Can I take care of myself? Yeah, to some extent. However, it's a waste of time to do so in the strict sense.

Yeah, I take care of myself pretty well. Doesn't mean I'm even close to independent. No one is. Unless you go all Thoreau or unabomber.
