Inspired by LG's Things you used to Like (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=547041) thread, I would like to ask you, what did you used to hate but try later in life and found you like them?

As a child, I hated eggs, but I started to eat eggs within the last year and I don't know how I ever ate breakfast without scrambled eggs. Scrambled eggs and bacon with coffee is a real breakfast!

I also used to hate whole wheat bread but now I love the taste. I especially prefer multi-grain bread.

Dogs - not really hate, but I had a pretty bad phobia. I once had to leave a room because a friend (not knowing) brought her chihuahua in.

Now, I have several good doggy friends. :D

Raw tomatoes - I used to hate them so much I'd send a sandwich or burger back. I still don't really like them, but I will eat them.

I used to hate swimming, mostly because I was a slow learner and spent most of my time with one foot on the bottom of the pool pretending to swim. Now it's one of my favourite ways to relax. I can just put my body on auto-pilot and just work through all the things that have come up during my day. A kind of meditation I suppose

I used to really hate all that music that was incorrectly placed in the emo genre. Now I think a lot of it is all right.

Also, post-modernism is growing on me. Used to think it was useless.

Tomatoes. I still hate ketchup, but now like tomatoes.
Oddly, high diving.

Within the last 3 years I have developed a taste for coffee, I went from hating the smell of it, to drinking "candy" coffee (that's what hubby calls them) to drinking it with cream and lots of sugar, to now I can drink it black, and I like it.

I also used to really really hate Root Beer, but now I like it on occasion (like less than once a year).

now i love a good fireworks show--as long as i am not expected to "oooo and ahhhh out loud.

i hated westerns when i was a kid. i grew up in the era when bonanza and gunsmoke (and a dozen more) were the big shows on tv.

now i like westerns and enjoy watching old westerns on the tv on occasion.

I hated work, waking up, and just about everyone I knew. I never had a single friend in my life. I hate all those things and much more now.

There's lots of things that, as a child, I took one look at/smell of/tiny taste, and decided I didn't like it and refuse to try it again. Few things turned up later to be actually quite good in some things, such as mushrooms, gravy, fugues, horror films.

I hated tomatoes as a kid, until I was about eight or nine. Similarly, I hated coconut, until just a few years ago. I used to hate wine, but have now acquired a taste for it (I don't love it, per se, but it tastes pretty decent, depending on the kind). I also used to hate Final Fantasy VI (due to the fact that the characters walked so god-awful slowly), but now it's one of my favorite games.

That's all I can think of for now.

I didn't know I had to answer. Maybe it'd be best to start off with my first year of schooling. I got stabbed in the arm by a fellow student. He broke the pencil off in my arm. And when I was sick my teacher jabbed me in the gut with her high-heeled shoes.

Every year through my last of HS was like that. I was stabbed 3 more times in school, 2 of them with knives. I was verbally abused and physically beaten by my peers and if I threw so much as a single punch in self-defense I would get blamed for the whole fight. People with the authority to stop what was going would ignore it even when it happened right in front of them.

And so many people debated why the Columbine tragedy happened. No one ever says it but some of those people probably had it coming.

You think that, because someone has bullied someone, they no longer deserve the right to live?

I don't want to give the impression I'm being heartless, I sympathise with your bad experiences, but to hold such anger against these people (and people in general) is not very healthy. To be angry at those who have wronged you is normal and healthy, but not to the extent that you demonise those people and maintain a complete mistrust of everyone because of the actions of a few. People do bad things and punished if appropriate, but they are not necessary bad people overall and certainly don't deserve to be murdered in revenge.

Every thread is a place for debate and discussion. That's why this is a discussion forum and not just a spam board.

Anyway, I hated wasabi peas. I am now addicted to them.

This is a debate forum. If you mean this is not the right thread for it, perhaps, but not much else is happening in this thread.

well i sympathise with your experiences. Sounds unfair, but the people i know wouldn't allow that sort of thing to happen.
Have you tried speaking to i dunno your parents about this or your guardian? you could take them to court, or at least threaten to take them to court, from the things you've said, i'd say some of them deserve punishment.
good luck

I think that one happens to a lot of people at some point or another. Or maybe that's just my friends and I, as well.

I used to hate broccoli, but now there are times I basically live off it (out of my own free will).

And rice waffles.

And the idea to own a mobile phone.

And talking to people on the phone.

The big food shifts for me were eggs and avocados. Used to hate them, now I love them.

Also, disco. Absolutely hated it when it was new. Now I like it, especially while working, exercising, and cleaning the house. Boogie fever, ya got to boogie down! ;)

I used to despise baseball. Then my son took me to a Rockies game. I'm still not into baseball on TV, but get me to a ball park, with hot dogs, funnel cake and the Rockies (esp. Matt Holliday and Tulowitzki), and I'm happy.
