I started out on II, actually. But then, the only RPs I followed were Pacitalia/Sarzonia/other AO nations (I know there are big names that I'm forgetting, but it's been awhile since there's anything interesting I've actively followed, and the memory starts to go, you know?)

So I shuffled over here and I like it here. :)

I have RPed in II a bit, with various nations. I never became an official "IIer" because of a lack of time and a lack of interest in war RPs. I don't know why, but the war RPs are just boring to me the way they're generally done in II. Even good writing can't seem to make them interesting to me. Just a personal hang-up, I guess.

I don't even know what II is. The only reference to NationStates 2 that I've ever seen - outside of comments made in threads like this - is the forum section for it here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=1228), which is just speculation about it being vaporware, moaning about possibly having to pay for it if it ever materialises, and tumbleweed. I presume that isn't what you're all on about.

It's moot for me anyway. I'm only here because there are enough posters on NSG capable of objective comment to make it worthwhile browsing the threads to see what's what. Freeform RP is nice, done well, but it's usually done really, really badly, and that makes it pointless (to me).

I'll help! The trick is basically to ignore what everyone says, read the sticky threads about basic RP ettiquette (i.e. godmoding and good writing), and just.... try not to start any war RPs, those always degenerate. With the possible exception of those started by me (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=539923) ;) -- and even then because people don't generally take them very seriously.

Well, I used to run a nation called 'Raw Unadulterated Evil' and it seemed nobody appreciated the subtle deviousness. For example: During one near-war, Evil stepped in to moderate and offered to take thousands of ethnic prisoners(that the offending nation was committing atrocities upon) and have them re-educated into valuable members of Evil's society. Nobody even once batted an eye at the 're-education' concept. :(

Another time, Evil perfected an automated satellite assembly technology and asked for assistance in testing it by a nation with a space program. Without batting an eye, the nation sent ten 10,000 lb payloads of depleted uranium slugs into a polar orbit which were then assembled successfully into a single unit. With a retrorocket and guidance system. ... In other words, an orbital kinetic energy weapon. A poor man's nuke. Crickets chirped. :(

They developed for sale several unique techologies including a ultrasonic sniper rifle that fires a coherent pulse of ultrasound instead of a bullet and a universal anti-biowarfare drug. In the distance, a dog barked. :(

There's a practice war I've joined over at II, where older players teach young 'uns like me. :D But there's more to II than wars and factbooks and alliances and embassies. I tried to make my RPs to be a little bit different, but this one is dead (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=541044) (I think my inactivity killed it... :(), this one (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=541174) is still on but closed... Over at II there are madhouses (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=546240), cheese factories (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=513627&highlight=cheese), reality shows (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=541623&highlight=race+feather), etc...

Wow, all this time I read "II" as 2, instead of "I.I.". Y'learn something new every day! :p

I've read bits and pieces of it from time to time, but it's just not my cup of tea (or rather coffee, since I don't drink tea) - mainly bluster with little to no root in any recognisable reality. It's like listening to a conversation where the participants are each making up their own words (or listening to a couple of Trekkies arguing over some non existent tech, I suppose) and getting annoyed with the others for not understanding. Just not for me.

If other people enjoy it though, good for them. None of my business :)

Talematros didn't like that and proceeded to godmod when I dropped one of those on his little capital city. He wouldn't play nice nor appreciate Farflorin's contribution to Kryozerkia's war machine.

...oh, and occasionally we get some nut going "My nation is only 5 million, which is unfair in war. Please change my population to 5 billion.". Which is about as likely to succeed as Kim Jong-Il going "Bush, if we went to war North Korea would gte crushed, so please lend me all your nukes, kthx."
