Drink yourself to sleep.

Or, you could work out a lot during the day, so you'll be tired at night.

You could always do both...

Get some nice soothing music. play it at a volume level that you can barely hear it.

I got this advice from watching Saving Private Ryan. One soldier said the key is to try to stay awake. I've tried it, it works.

First, get the hell off of the computer. That will help.

Secondly, don't eat with in three hours of sleep. Make sure the room is at comfortable temp. Play relaxing music. Or, finally, since IIRC you are a muslim, maybe you should just stay up all night and wait 'til after fajr, and then try sleeping. I'm sure you'd be plenty tire then.

it depends on how one 'tries to stay awake'. reading? yeah... playing computer games? possibly not. it might help keep you awake. watching T.V? again it depends on what you're watching.

need more info - drinking yourself to sleep sounds good but you'll end up with alcoholic insomnia. Why not try some Nyquil - and start going to bed at a regular time every night and try to get 9 hours consistently - you'll start losing weight and have more energy and better concentration. The eight hour theory is flawed, geared to make you believe that your life is three equal parts sleep, work, play. work less, sleep and play more.

Smoke a joint, drink a couple shots of bourbon, eat a bunch of turkey, masturbate (or fuck if the options there for you), take a really really warm shower. There were some other steps but I forgot them.

Benadryl. Works great on most people.

Also, make sure you are comfortable and have no distractions in your room when you go to sleep. If you don't fall to sleep withing 15 minutes..get up and do something boring for a bit. Then try again. Don't just lay in bed awake because then your body will get used to NOT sleeping in bed.

I think some form of intensive exercise during the day is required. Less time on the computer (i'm guilty of lack of sleep too, damn computer).

Then paint yourself blue, fashion some wings made from paper, and say you're the soul reaver here to protect the other vampires!
Oh i think i went a bit off track, but seriously good exercise helps, alternating activities helps too, doing housework can't hurt. Sometimes when i can't sleep properly for several nights i just stay awake during one, then zonk out the next, it's not healthy or clever but it's all i could do.

I recommend consulting a medical professional. The advice of random and unqualified people you have never met can hardly be taken at face value, or at least without a large sample of solid form sodium chloride.

What he means is after reading all these posts, eat a bag full of salt.
But i would be a bit cautious before doing this, like sitting down while putting on your socks.(i don't know why)

I don't know, but I've been having trouble falling asleep lately. Hopefully I'll go back to normal once the break is over and I have to start waking up at 5:30 AM again.

tell that to my dad, he went five days without sleep once (he had a night shift job), and started hallucinating, he thought there was a monster chasing him, and he was incredibly exhausted (that was a while ago though).

As I understand it you're not meant to go more than three days without sleep. Or water.

I've had horrible insomnia ever since I was a little kid, so I have tried everything. There are several things you have to pay attention to:

Avoid caffeine after about 4pm and cut way back on sugar intake (this does affect you far more than you think - that you have been able to occasionally fall asleep just an hour after drinking a sugar laden coffee does not mean you are somehow immune to basic physiology).

Stick to a routine - both going to bed at night and getting up in the morning at a set time everyday. Eventually your body will adapt to the schedule and even begin to anticipate it (get drowsy at bedtime and wakeup without the alarm). Very difficult, I know.

Do not do anything in your bed except sleep (or have sex). If you stay up reading in bed, your mind can associate being in bed with mental activity. If you are in bed awake for more than 20min, get up and do something for a little while (tidy up or something decidedly not mentally stimulating - great time to take care of mindless chores that have to be done anyway).

Sex (or masturbation) helps - it relaxes and sedates you for a bit.

And of course, there is always the absolute best method that is unfortunately not very practical in modern society - only go to bed when sleepy. That is the number one reason why I love working for myself - I get up when I want to, I go to bed when I feel like it. If that means I am up for 30 hours, fine, if I go to bed at 7am, no problem. Unfortunately I'm moving in with my girlfriend so I do have to respect that she is on a 9-5 schedule (we are snuggly sleepers so it is hard to get up and sneak off after she falls asleep - but I'm working on that particular skill).
