How in the name of all that is legal do you explain this?

Do you stop, not stop, hope and pray for the best, what?

http://www.roadtripamerica.com/signs/blackhole.htm

and what about that one, how are all those cars going to get out of there?

:confused::confused::confused:

Do you stop, not stop, hope and pray for the best, what?Easy. The stopping only refers to parking, so if you stop for the sake of keeping on going, you're allowed to.

No stopping = no parking or waiting, I believe. Stop sign is the equivalent of "give way".

The no through road sign does not mean a dead end. Just means you can't get to a main road at the other end if you're looking for a shortcut. There'll be other roads coming off it, or it may circle round and rejoin the same main road it left.

@ Ifreann - speaking of quantum events, one of the announcements on the London Underground instructs you to "use all doors to exit the carriage".

^There's an intersection in Albany (Dove St. and Lancaster St.) where there's one way in but three ways out.

At least in NYS, there are five types of stopping: Parking, standing, stopping(1), stopping(2), and yielding. Parking is with the car in P, and the engine off. Standing is the same, with it on. Stopping(1) is stopping to chat or pick someone up or drop someone off. Yes, people do actually stop in the middle of the road and chat with pedestrians they see walking by. At least in Ravena. The other stopping is for a light, sign, or traffic officer, where you are, as it was put earlier, stopping "for the sake of keeping on going." Yielding is when you slow down and wait for an opening in traffic, but generally have to stop because wherever yield signs are, the traffic is always bad enough that there isn't a gap.

I suppose that photo could have been taken at a T junction with the left and right turn offs both being one way streets although it wouldn't really make a difference to the drivers since they couldn't break that rule unless they u-turned on them

It's a koan or possibly a mantra. They're obviously concerned about spiritual growth and are giving drivers an opportunity for meditation and contemplation of the contradictions inherent in life. Just clap one hand, stare at the sign and hum. Enlightenment will come to you.

During those times there isn't any restriction on parking periods. The real problem with that sign is the overlap of the two hour and 15 minute restrictions

Easy...1st, that sign's facing into a parking lot (you can see the street in the background). Parking lots often have designated entrances and exits.

The person inside the parking lot is looking to leave, if they're facing that sign. So, they need the "exit." However, that gap the sign's referring to is the "entrance."

"Entrance Only."

If he tries to go out there anyway, he's liable to be plowed into by someone driving into the lot from that street there. So he'd better not enter that particular gap after all...
"Do Not Enter."

And there you have it. "Entrance only, do not enter!"
