I've just read the processes of the primary elections, and I've realized how fracking complex it is. Now I know why so many people don't vote.

Is it? All I know is that I have to choose whether to participate in the GOP or Democrat primary, in the next few days. Not sure which way to go just yet.

I don't pretend to know how it all works. All I know is we're included in the Super Tuesday voting, and I'll be voting absentee. :p

Obviously written by someone with way too much free time. Primaries are simple. You find out who's running in your state, make sure you are registered to vote, or pretend to be someone who is [seriously, we need id at the polls], and vote for the candidate that you want to be selected for President at the party convention.

Most times, you also get to vote on a whole slate of other candidates for the party nomination and maybe a few issues.

Yes. Yes it is.
And we should care because...?
Well, we should certainly care that people don't vote. But as to the OP's enlightenment, I share Fass's sentiments (but in a much friendlier, less Swedish way).

If you think a primary is confusing, look at the Democratic Party rules for Iowa caucus.

I caucused here for the first time, and it's not that difficult. The doors opened at six-thirty and the caucus began at seven. The supporters for each candidate stood in their designate areas and were counted. After the first count, any candidate who has less than 15% (higher for smaller percincts) is not viable and won't get any delegates. There's thirty minutes or so to convince the non-viables to join other groups, and then the groups are officially tallied up and the delegates assigned.

Welcome to the American Political System. I hope you enjoy your day. Primaries are actually not a part of the Constitution, so the whole thing could be ruled against...
