The crazy recipe thread

So, earlier I was looking for something to fix for dinner, and I was looking at the box of instant mashed potatoes in my cupboard (for a side dish). I read the directions for its preparation, and looked in the fridge to make sure I had enough milk for the job. Well, I all I had was chocolate milk. It made me wonder, what would it taste like if I used the chocolate milk? Would it be a desert or a side dish (or maybe both)? Would it be edible? Could I become a millionaire genius for discovering a tasty yet healthy snack?

Anyways, what I want to know is, what crazy recipes have you come up with/tried/heard about, and how were they? Post up any recipes you may have that conform to the thread topic, if you can.

I don't really have anything I would consider crazy, but I will make a chocolate milkshake using just about any flavour of ice cream as the base. I think the best one was when I used the candy cane ice cream and added Bailey's Irish cream to the final product.

You coward. How can you sleep at night with your shame?!

But seriously, I think the craziest thing I ever tried was a soup containing all sorts of leftovers, like hot dogs and stuffing balls. In fact, I made it just a few hours ago.

It's pretty damned good.

Cake with Kahlua and Bailey's

* 75 g dark chocolate
* 100 g margarine or butter
* 1 ½ dl sugar
* 3 eggs
* 3/4 dl white flour
* 1 ½ tea spoon baking soda

Filling 1:

* 1 dl apricot marmalade

Filling 2:

* 3 dl whipped cream
* 3 table spoons Bailey's liqueur
* 1 table spoon sugar

Garnish:

* 75-100 g chopped almonds
* 2-3 table spoons Kahlua
* 1-2 dl whipped cream
* 10-15 grapes and/or chocolate shavings

Melt the chocolate. Whisk the fat and sugar until porous. Add the eggs one at a time while stirring. Add the chocolate and the flour mixed with the baking soda.

Pour the batter in a round pan (ca 18 cm in diameter) that you've greased and lined with bread crumbs. Bake at the bottom of the oven at 175°C for 50 minutes. Allow to cool.

Divide the sponge cake horizontally. Smear marmalade on one of the pieces. Whip the cream and flavour it with the Bailey's and the sugar. Smear 1/3 of it on top of the marmalade and the rest on the edges and top of the cake (once you've covered the first cake piece with the other).

Mix the chopped almonds with enough Kahlua that they become sticky and garnish the edges of the cake with them.

Whip the cream and use the rest of the Kahlua to flavour it. Use a spritzer or a spoon to decorate the top of the cake with the cream. Garnish with grapes and/or chocolate shavings.

Put your favorite kind of pop into a glass of your favorite kind of ice cream. Just like a root beer float, but only maybe without root beer and maybe without vanilla ice cream. (Mountain Dew was my favorite kind of pop, by the way. Sometimes I even use milk. Softens the ice cream right up. :) )

Put Pepper Jack cheese onto a soft shell taco. Microwave it until melted. Then spread tomato sauce on it and then put on chopped letteus and onion. (a personal favorite!)

Cook spaghetti. Butter down bread. Put spaghetti on slice of bread then put another slice on top of that. So you'll get spaghetti sandwich.

Well it is a recipe and it is a crazy one too...

Fruitcake Recipe

1 cup water
1 cup of sugar
4 large eggs
2 cups dried fruit
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup brown sugar
lemon juice
nuts
1 gallon whiskey

Sample the whiskey to check for quality.
Take a large bowl.
Check the whiskey again to be sure it is of the highest quality.
Pour one level cup and drink.
Repeat.
Turn on the electric mixer; beat 1 cup butter in a large, fluffy bowl.
Add 1 teaspoon sugar and beat again.
Make sure the whiskey is still OK.
Cry another tup. Turn off mixer.
Break 2 legs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit.
Mix on the turner.
If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers, pry it loose with a drewscriver.
Sample the whiskey to check for tonsisticity.
Next, sift 2 cups of salt. Or something, Who cares.
Check the whiskey.
Now sift the lemon juice and strain your nuts.
Add one table. Spoon. Of sugar or something. Whatever you can find.
Grease the oven. Turn the cake tin to 350 degrees.
Don't forget to beat off the turner.
Throw the bowl out of the window.
Check the whiskey again.
Go to bed.
Who the hell likes fruitcake anyway?

So, earlier I was looking for something to fix for dinner, and I was looking at the box of instant mashed potatoes in my cupboard (for a side dish).

Side dish? That's my main course six nights out of seven. :p Although I buy the pre-spiced, which requires only water.

As for recipes, one of my favorites:

Cook a hot dog in the microwave, 1 minute. I recommend Wal-Mart's Bar-S brand, approx. 15 cents/dog. Chop the dog into ten equally sized bits, top to bottom. Place bits on one saltine apiece, with either mustard or sour cream in between. Good stuff, and dinner for less than $0.50. :)

the only crazy thing i've done is add powdered mixes to meatloaf.

the ones that are good were
Taco
Burrito
Manwich

the one that was NOT so good...
Fajita.

but one day I'll try that powdered gravy stuff... I wonder if it will make it's own gravy as it cooks...

reminds me...

made tacos one night... with the leftovers, I put it in a tin and mixed the rest of the cheese and added the diced veggies and baked the sucker.

wasn't half bad...

and of course, the things I put in my fried rice...

Yeah, but the spaghetti's the weird part. It's starch between more starch. ;)

I was going to add one more thing, but it's not really a "recipe," even it's a bit unusual: my patented corn weevil trail mix! Made with real corn weevils! :p But really, that's just regular homemade corn nuts with the weevils left in.

Yeah, but the spaghetti's the weird part. It's starch between more starch. ;)

there's a local resturant here that...

let's just say you get exactly what you order.

for instance. if you want fried noodles you can order a fried noodle plate... or a plate of fried noodles.

both are different...

a plate of fried noodles is just that. a plate with a huge heaping serving of fried noodles.

a fried noodle plate has two scoops of rice and salad...

starch and veggies with a dish of starch mixed with veggies... :p

I had chilli and it was mildly spicy which I can't handle, so I decided to add yogurt.
I only had strawberry yogurt, from the tube, past its expiry date (why the hell would anyone by or eat something from a tube with the excpetion of being in space?).
It was yummy.

I don't recommend the past 'Best Before' date (you should always finish your yogurt) or the from a tube part, but if you need to cool chilli down use strawberry yogurt. Trust me on this one.

The scary part is I've tried this without being a starving university student. Imagine the possibilities for next year! Food poisoning here I come!

Not really recipes, but kind of weird (I suppose): peanut sandwiches and cookie sandwiches.

And something my sister did when she was younger: Take a box of cakemix, prepare as per direction, but accidentally add ten times as much milk; then make pancakes out of it.

Ramen sandwiches were a staple while I was at uni, more for the fact they were cheap then for their fantastic taste though.

One of my all time favourite sandwiches is strawberry jam and mature cheddar, I always thought I was the only one until I saw Anthony Worral Thompson making one on tv once.

Baked CHicken Breast covered in Taco seasoning mixed with Cream of Mushroom Soup; also good with pork!

or

1/2 to 1 lbs Chopped chicken mixed with 1 lbs rice, 2 cans cream of mushroom soup, brocolli and chopped carrots. Cover and bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees F, stir thouroughly, add seasoned salt and garlic too taste, bake for 15 more minutes at 325 degrees and serve.

I tend to put leftovers into my omelets

best turnouts

roast beef omelet (with roast beef, potatoes and carrots, and I added some cheddar)

taco omelet (ground beef, pico de gallo, and cheddar, topped it with sour cream)

Pizza omelet (leftover pepperoni, ham and mozzerella and ricotta cheese)

not so great

meatloaf omelet.....didn't finish that one, gave it to the dog I had at the time, he enjoyed it

lasagna omelet.....the noodles were too much......however, the kids like it so I still make it for them.

Well, I don't use marmite (or vegemite for that matter), but I do occasionally eat peanut butter and honey sandwiches. I grew up on them (although looking back, it wasn't my mother's smartest idea to give a hyperactive kid all that sugar). The best though, was when I'd cut it in half and dunk the halves in ice cold milk (done when I was a kid).

Banana and cheese jaffles. Banana, cheese, bread, put in jaffle-iron. Cook. Eat.

If you wanted it to be gourmet, you'd use an unsalted cheese like cream cheese ... but hey, it works for me just using cheddar!

And to the thread topic (wrong things to do with milk) -- fresh milk and vodka. Dilute the vodka a bit first to keep the whole mess from curdling. Or what the hell, it's going to end up curdled when it hits your stomach anyway ...
