Man Busted For Street Racing

It sounds like something you read about all the time. Nothing newsworthy about it. Here's what makes this story a little different. The man charged with street racing (clocked at 161km/h) is not young, not by any stretch of the imagination. He is considered the oldest person caught street racing in Ontario. The record was previously held by two 75 year olds (busted on different occasions).

The record is now held by an 85 year old man. He was only driving fast because he was going to the bank and doing some shopping.

Man, 85, charged with street racing (http://www.thestar.com/News/GTA/article/290921)

Don't be picky, that's what an Ontario legislation calls it when you go 50km/h over the speed limit. I know it's one car, but that doesn't matter.

And I guess that dispels the notion that all old people drive extremely slow in the passing lane. :)

Call me a gearhead, but I wonder what kind of car he was driving? :p

Oldsmobile. You'd know... if you'd read the article. Thank you for proving the vast majority of NSG prefers to respond without first reading the article. ;)

What's this about 85 men being charged for street racing?

That would have made for a better thread topic. :)

Heh yeah. *cough* Of course though that would be against the law and these men would deserve to be arrested, even if it was a topless woman asking them to do it!

Shit, I thought that he just floored it and didn't notice crossing the speed of light... but he was seen slaloming in the traffic! Scary.

Clearly, though, it wasn't his fathers...

Hooons! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoon) That clearly proves that old people are horrid. We should put them on special licensing systems that make it much easier to lose their licenses, and impose restrictions on what sorts of vehicles they can drive.

Don't they already have to pass the medical exam once in a few years? At least in Europe.
Irrelevant anecdotal evidence: father of my neighbour used to give lectures (he was an MD), go to hunts (and participate, and bring back prey) and drive a car untl he was 92.

Well, my outrage is so great that this is clearly evidence that mere medical exams aren't enough. Maybe humiliating them a bit more, making sure they know they only drive at the grace of the masses, would fix them.

Anal probing, anyone?

Why on earth would you be wanting to anal probe pensioners? Very disturbing. :p

Not really all that surprised. Other than a handful of us young guys (25 and under), most of the people I race with are well into their forties and fifties, and about a handful are in their sixties. Shit, most of the young guys (meself included) can't afford the serious fast cars. Nine seconds and faster, especially on the street, ain't cheap.

This is why I reject the idea that a Porsche or a Corvette is a mid-life crisis car. Fuck you, it took me this long to afford it, if I could have bought one when I was 20 I would have. I bust my ass to finally get to this point and you want me to drive, what? A Granada? (http://www.tocmp.com/pix/Ford/images/1975%20Ford%20Granada%20Ghia%20Sedan%20f3q_jpg.jpg) Screw that, you drive it. I'm going to drive something fun now that I can fucking afford it.

That's all fictional in that I still can't afford either car and I did own a Porsche when I was 20. (914)

Amusing eh. (Lol I can't believe I'm posting as one of the very few Canadians and using the word ''Eh''. I'm just begging for igloo jokes) Anyway, I don't fully understood the concept of this law. Clearly you not racing against anyone. It is a pretty shitty deal though, don't quote me but I've heard automatic 30 day suspension of your license, car impounded followed by a court date and some rather hefty fines. In residential settings, that 50km over the limit is reduced to 30km. I've heard of a couple people in my town busted for it already.

Since you're begging...

This time of year wouldn't a tobogan be more efficient anyway? You could just lasso a taxi as it was driving by, or a city bus...

Some days yes but once the snow removal guys plow the roads we have to go back to travelling by cars like normal people.

More often than not. I'll track race as well, when they are open and I'm not having to deal with the Rednecks and anti-import crew, but the street as thus far proved cheaper and easier.

Well, we don't have to much Tongan royalty rolling around in the US at three and four in the morning.

*EDIT* Looks like they were in the US. Interesting. Well, we don't have to much Tongan royalty in my part of the US.

Again, I do track race. Like around turns and stuff. And I drag. Most of my street stuff I do on the highway though, from a roll. More a test of the car than the driver. And for what its worth, I've owned front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, and all wheel drive cars. And I had a sport bike, but I dropped it, and that was no fun.
