I have not yet got anything for christmas, and so my dad feeling really bad has offered to buy me either a Zune 80 or the Ipod Classic. I still havent got a clue on what I should pick. While the Zune has an awesome screen, it has shorter batterly life, etc. Theres many ups and downs. What should I get? What would you get, and why? HELP ME!
Neither. Go with the Sansa. It has a better battery life than either one. :)

Sansa, unreliable, Ive had 3 Sansas break down on me. Thats another thing. Every type of mp3 player I have ever had has broken, not my fault of course.

Sansa lil' Monsta

TOO MANY TO REMEMBER!
So reliability is also a big factor.

Go with whatever is going to play well with what you already got. I use a Mac and iTunes so the iPod would work easiest for me, but if you use another media player I believe the iPod might be a bit of a hassle (not sure about that) and if you use something like WMP the Zune might just be easier.
This is if you want to use the 'path of least resistance' method...
Zune. ipods are a bunch of BS and the only thing that keeps the turn that is Apple from finnally taking its finnal plunge down the toliet bowl. The less ipods sold the better.

Yes I have taken these things into consideration, but i think its even. I have mp3s and I do use Itunes from time to time, but I have a back up library. This brings to mind another question for all of you that own the said devices, what video files are they compatible with. I have a lot of avi files so I am most likely gonna go with wich ever one is compatible with avi. Does Itunes conver avi?

I've no real desire to listen to music constantly, especially at a poor quality and with excessive background noise that there normally is while going around. I prefer having time to think.

I got my Nokia 6131 mobile phone for that now.
I still have a Sony NWE MP3 player though.
I keep two libraries - one of the higher quality ripped music and lower rate iPod format for my Nokia.
I had my hands on the iPod once, the owner had dropped it when getting on a bus but took the bus returning to get it back. That bus arrived seconds before I could board mine.
I have an iPod, i like it cuz its simple and all i need it for is me music.
my sister has a Zune, she uses it for a bit of music but also for a lot of video. So i think its more between what you want it for, music or video?

Nintendo DS.
Yes, I know that it's a handheld VG system not a music player.

Creative Zen Vision M Series. (http://reviews.cnet.com/mp3-players/creative-zen-vision-m/4505-6490_7-31632696.html?tag=pdtl-img)
I've gotten nothing but admiration and envy from iPod owners.
Zune owners... Well, I haven't met any yet. Which is a serious drawback in a product that brags about its wireless sharing capability.

Do they even make those anymore, because I would definitely get it, but I thaught Creative discontinued it. Creative does have the best sound quality in my opinion.

Zune is very nice. My dad just got the 80 gig Zune for Christmas. Much better than an iPod, Sansa, or Creative (have used all of them). DOWN WITH APPLE!
I have a 30gb iPod that I use to carry movies and TV shows around to watch at friend's houses (using A/V out) and as a portable HD. I also have a Motorola Krzr that I installed a 2gb microSD card in and use as an MP3 player.
iPod, just to flip the bird at Microsoft.
Also, the earphones have always seemed to be very good quality and the battery life seems pretty good too.

I'd stay away from hard drive players unless you really need the space. I went with the 8gb Ipod Nano and I cannot believe I lived with the drawbacks of my old hard drive Ipod (which died when I dropped it on the floor) for as long as I did. With solid state there is no spinning up, no worries if you drop it, no wonkiness when you're jogging, better battery life, better form factor... so, if you can live with the smaller space (not that 16 gb is all that small in the Ipod touch, though pricey), I'd say go with a solid state player.

None of the above. The best things (http://www.google.com/patents?id=c-VzAAAAEBAJ&printsec=abstract&zoom=4&dq=portable+record+player#PPA1967,M1) were all made in the Sixties.

My iPod Nano kept me from going insane (a matter of opinion) at my summer job. Not necessarily purchasing advice as I have never used a Zune, but I do enjoy my iPod, for what it's worth.

I bought a creative in November when I suddenly had to go back to NZ (I had 5 hours to book a flight, get home, pack and get to the airport. It's over an hour school-->home and another hour home--> airport). Inbetween I still somehow found the time to buy a creative, take it home, charge it up for 40 minutes and d/l 8 gig of music onto it.
Thing lasted me the entire 11 hour flight home. Fully charged it has a battery life of 25 hours.
It's small, convenient, looks and sounds great.
Only thing I don't like about it is that you can't (afaik) click on a band and play all. It opens their directory and displays all their albums individually. You can play each album in turn, but not all their songs. This is a major drawback and incovenience imo.
Other than that, I'm very happy with it.

go for an Archos. i got a 404 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Archos-404-Portable-Multimedia-Player/dp/B000I5Q07E/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1199439040&sr=8-1) and it rocks... cheaper than either MS or Apple offerings, big screen, 30gb does the job nicely for me. best bit is it plays divx videos too :)
that or a Creative one
Creative does have the best sound quality in my opinion.

Neither, I have a Sony Walkman (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-NWZS616FBLK-Walkman-Video-Player/dp/B000VABPA8/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1199439424&sr=8-4) and I love it!

The Sony Walkman, you say? I actually still have one of the original Walkmans around... you know, the kind that played tapes.

Yeah It is weird I dont ever look at an mp3 player and think of it as a walkman.
