World of Warcraft players who support Ron Paul held an in-game rally for him.

Apparently, sometime around 8:30 PM EST on Tuesday, a throng of Alliance members took to the streets of Ironforge in a surprisingly well-orchestrated in-game demonstration designed to drum up support for (very real life) Republican dark horse presidential candidate and Internet darling Ron Paul.

Server inhabitants were generally amused at the spectacle though a few reports of verbal (textual?) abuse and /spitting were reported by the event's participants -- hecklers it seems, remain a fixture of any political rally. A few gamers on the affected servers also reported some annoyance at the lag experienced as a result of the procession's substantial numbers.

Of course, what really would have made the event spectacular would have been the sudden and unexpected appearance of an equally sized host of democrat-leaning Horde players engaged in staging their own political rally,

I think that's rather strange.

Not to mention worrying that anyone supports Ron Paul.
His policies are absurd.

Not to worry, these guys will be so wrapped up in some campaign they'll forget to vote.

Thank God!
I saw two pieces of their, well, propaganda yesterday.

One of them compared Giuliani to the Nazis and Clinton to the Soviets and the other was full of a load of gush from his cult - sorry, I meant supporters.

Sounds like the typical Ron Paul propaganda.

*EPIC MUSIC throughout*
*Ron Paul saying something that sounds nice*
*Random quote from a Founding Father*
*shots of Ron Paul rallies taken close up to make it look like they're more crowded*
*Random quote from a Founding Father*
*lies about Ron Paul's record*
Conclusion: RON PAUL IS THE MESSIAH!

Yep, that's the bunny!
It's worse than the adverts we had for the Conservative Party in the UK last year.

I actually wonder how many Ron Paul supporters will end up voting since a lot of his support seems to stem from this weird quasi-hipster movement. Mind you, it's not precisely hipster...ism? but it's that kind of anti-hipster-hipster that's just as annoying and much more pretentious than your normal empty-headed hipster.

Ah, you have to admire their pluck. Although, I can't decide if it's a good thing or bad thing that we might be about to find out how little the internet matters...probably later tonight...

And the Labour ones we had this year.

I didn't see those, so I can't comment.

Alas! The Paulbots have to venture outside their darkened rooms and be exposed to daylight in order to caucus!

I just had a nightmare vision that in four years people will be able to caucus in Second Life...

And that won't be the end of it. Soon, you will have people voting in Second Life, and dating, and hooking themselves up to the computer to have virtual sex...

I doubt those would be valid though, as their is too much chance of falsification of data. It is much easier to be someone else online than it is in RL.

The last two already happen...

Disclaimer: I do not play WoW. However, my boyfriend does. When I mentioned this to him, his response was:

That's a little unfair, as it did sound authentic (the WoW rally), and it allows people with a common opinion to gather and talk with each other and anyone who might be interested. Think of it as just another chatroom encounter that happens anywhere on the Net, only between a couple of gnomes, a night elf rogue, and maybe a few shammys.

Though I will say I don't support Paul in the least.
