I predict it will be another bad year for the world's poor, which would make it some 6000 bad years in a row since records began. It's starting to look like a habit.

In 2008? Come on, even Microsoft left 4 years between their two consoles. These things take time to develop.

In 2008 someone will deiscover a huge disign flaw in the Wii forcing them all or at least most of them to be recalled. The PS3 shoots up in sales and Sony and Microsoft get locked in a battle. Apple releases the next reincarnation of the iPod causing many suckers to buy it while they countinue to remain oblivious that most Apple products become obsolete in 2 years and that they'll just make the next genration one causing everyone to go get the it. Vista will finally get the kinks worked out and people are happy. In 3-5 years the next Microsoft operating system will just repeat what happens to Vista. Hopefully someone upsets the Patriots. The war in war Iraq countinues with US troops remaining in bases just like they did in post WWII Germany. Hopefully the violence in Darfur will end but the UN and NATO are going to do all sorts of investigations. The Yankees will have a successful sesaon but probably won't take the series, despite my hopes. Perhaps we'll see an influx of new NSGers that will contribute to our threads well. I could honostly see Chris Dodd getting the nomination for the Democrats. He just looks like the kind of person who would run for president and people aren't harsh on him like the front runners and he seems like your basic liberal. As for the Republicans, God knows. We'll see the next game in the GTA series which will cause some contriversy from people who like to crush freedom of expression. People will finally wake up to the dangers of Global Warming and new efforts wil arise to stop it.

China will overtake Germany as the biggest exporter in the world. US media will make a huge deal out of this, making trade barriers against China a big election issue.

Obama will win against Romney, but things won't actually change that much. Barack will be very enthusiasting in his foreign policy for a while, but on all areas other than climate change he'll find that people don't consider his opinion as much as he'd like them to. On climate change some new protocol will be agreed to, but he'll be fighting its domestic implementation for the rest of his one term. Though all that will be later than '08.

Oil prices will continue to go up, I can see $150 being entirely reasonable.

The financial crisis will hurt the US economy (maybe even a small recession) and slow down Europe as well, though the world economy is by now big enough to grow nonetheless. The question is what happens to inflation as globalisation momentarily switches from being a source of lower-cost items to a source of price rises as demand for stuff in Asia grows ever faster.

There'll be another new government in Japan, as the economy there stalls again.

Kevin Rudd here in Oz will get into a big and largely staged fight against the unions which he'll win. Other than that, I'd expect the government to be in the news much less than it was in Howard's times. Interest rates will keep rising though, which will annoy the crap out of voters and make Rudd very uncomfortable, causing him to keep talking about improving housing affordability but ultimately not being able to do anything.
