I think Putin views himself as the man to rebirth the USSR, and he probably will eventually. His presidential term was filled with changes that made the budding society revert back to its Communist ways and tensions with the US over social and economic issues are back on a high. Not to mention the fact that he reinstated long rang bomber missions on a regular basis, something that hasn't been done since the Cold War. They weren't armed or a threat to the US physically, but the rhetoric and precedent sent by these training missions was incredibly negative.

Secondly, not that his presidency is come to term, he will probably be the next Prime Minister of Russia. He just won't leave power. That is always a bad sign, when a man gains power and then will do anything to hold on to it. Mind you it's perfectly legal under their governmental system, but it still festers upon the international community. Especially because he basically picked the next president and put HIMSELF into that position. Things don't look good for Russia joining the US as a permanent ally, but we'll have to see what happens.

Nah, IMHO not so much "USSR" but "Russia as an empire". While he's happy to say things like the-greatest-geopolitical-tragedy-of-XX-Century-stuff, he's not less eager to rejuvenate pre-1917 elements.

He has had absolutely no problem grabbing it himself so far. As to bad things about him, off the top of my head:
- bathing Chechnya in blood to stop insurgence and creating a terrorist threat for the whole country
- strangling the freedom of the press
- gradually taking away the freedom to congregate
- reintroducing the bureaucracy of mediocre and passive, but loyal drones
- using the vast resources made available by the current oil crisis to boost military spending instead of strenghtening the economy
I'm not even going into things that are bad for the neigbouring countries and the world - the above is bad for Russia.

So you would support something say like interference in the surrounding countries politics, trying to make them subortinate (don't know the spelling) to the will of Russia? cause thats kinda what he's trying to do. A lot of dictators get the support of the people at first.

Putin's the kind of leader that traditional Russians like; strong, stable and capable. With the fall of the USSR, 'democracy' as most Russians see it, was simply a western ploy to rob Russia of its riches, while gangsterism ran rampant.

Putin is replacing a sense of nationalistic pride in Russians. To many, they are getting the best of both worlds; an increase in standard of living through capitalism, and a strong guiding hand through an authoritarian leader. Whether or not the west likes him is immaterial. Russia will take its place as a regional leader once again, and most Russians will live generally happier lives.

They'll just be living in a state with tightly controlled media. They, like China, will face interesting times with the advent of free flow of information; cell phones, internet, etc. There is already a liberal element to Russia, just a small voice in a crowd that prefers a more conservative environment.

There aren't really that many countries that interfere in the politics of bordering nations anymore, except for maybe china. Putain takes away democracy from the country, essentially says that he wishes to get back all lands that Russia has lost, continues to slaughter chechens daily and has a nuclear arms hold the likes of which could blow the world to infinity, runs a fachist like government that takes away the tenants of free speech and freedom of the press and yet you support him?

Sounds like fachism. Guess we've got to bring back the gulag for this literal police state (run by ex-Kgb members). I value the opinions of the surrounding countries of russia who are going to bear the brunt of increased russian aggression and attempts to make their neighbors into puppet states.

He has a grip of media, legistlature and hordes of people fed to believe he is the best and only future for Russia? - Sure. The 1st thing he assured.
