Are you an Optimist or a Pessimist?
If you don't know:
Optimist:"Great! The glass is half-full which means it's probably filling up!"
Pessimist:"Oh Crap! The glass is half-empty which means it's draining!"
Realist:"It's half a glass of water."

Realist. Being optimistic or pessimistic is trying to delude yourself. Realism is the best way of seeing things as they are.

Realists are pessimists who don't want to sound bad.

Let's use an example.

Anna Kournikova comes up to you and asks if you would like to go out with her.

Optimist - "I may even get to sleep with her tonight! And maybe after, we'd get married, have children, and die together! I say yes, yes, YES!"

Pessimist - "She's just going to dump me afterwards and I'll look like a fool. I'll say no"

Realist - "I'll just take it slow. If tonight's date ends well, maybe I'll kiss her. But, I'll just focus on the fact that she likes me and I won't mess that up. I say yes"

Pessimist.

I find that being a pessimist allows you to usually be pleasently suprised, as things usually go better than you expect.

It's a nice way to be.

I've always found the glass metaphor ironic.

You can say "half empty or half full", but I hear

"the glass is half-..." and it's automatically negative just because it isn't a full glass.

i see the world for what it is and what it could be at the same time, i just don't see the same space in between everyone else does.

Realist, unless it exists in a vacuum the glass is completely full. Air and liquid, though if it were in a vacuum the lack of pressure would cause most any fluid to boil out.

Yep, the glass is not half full, it is full...
The half is air which is consist of Nitrogen 70%, Oxygen 20%, and others 10 %
The other half is water which is consisted of Hidrogen 70 % and Oxygen 30 %.
So that means there are N 35 % Oxygen 25 %, And Hidrogen, eh, I do not know

OK, so I am an optimistic lunatic goofballian, I am willing to accept that even a little mud is better than no mud at all.

When I was little (like two or three, and my sister was one or two), we had one of those plastic kiddie pools, which we would do just that, splash out half the water, then scoop in lots of dirt till we were sitting in a mud pie. Mom never could figure out why, but we did it all the time. Fortunately, even though she didn't get it, she was cool enough to let us do it. The best part was that the pool was under a giant mulberry tree, so sometimes we had purplish mud.

I'm not an optimist, because I don't think that the half-full glass is a positive trend. I'm not a pessimist because I don't think a glass half-filled is a step in the wrong direction.
