Why don't they just adopt? They seem to be fairly selfish to me...

Wal-mart would carry Chinese babies.
Woman in India needs money. Couple wants baby. Couple winds up with kid and woman winds up with what is a lot of money for her(remember, this is INDIA we're tlaking about. Much lower pay over).
Seems win-win.

Wow, one woman gave birth to 40 women? Jeez, by now it must be like a slip n' slide, the kids are just popping out of there with no trouble.

Why don't they just adopt? They seem to be fairly selfish to me...Well, yeah, but as Dawkin's said, our genes are selfish. They want to be part of the next generation. You can't accomplish that with adoption (yet .. (and it would be highly unethical to change the genetic make-up of a kid you adopted to match your own if it were possible)).

Not to mention but the clinic also seems to take VERY good care of these Indian women, housing them, good medical care, counseling services. I agree. Win-win.

These is a little creepy. I'm interested to see what happens exactly twenty-five years from now, when the chips planted in all of those kids brains turn them into Manchurian Candidates.
Critics say the couples are exploiting poor women in India — a country with an alarmingly high maternal death rate — by hiring them at a cut-rate cost to undergo the hardship, pain and risks of labor.
I fail to see why any other shitty job for insufficient wages isn't exploitation. Frankly, if the money provided for surrogacy paid for food and shelter (and I wasn't a man in America) with money left over I'd consider it. My own job little more than breaks even. To me, that's exploitation.

Well there are surrogate mothers in the US too right? But then again the whole concept is touchy, and strange.
