So I got a PSP for Christmas, however it didn't come with any fancy accessories. I've looked over several websites at the fancy accessories, games and movies available, however I don't know what exactly I need/ should purchase. So I ask you.... what do you recommend.

Background Info

Semi Hardcore Gamer, FSP shooters and strategy games are my favorites.
Music Lover, so I'm going to want to put lots of music onto my PSP.
Occasionally watch movies so I'd only buy a few. I'm into war related, horror and comedy mostly.
Cannot think of a name

With the movies you have a limited library to chose from so it won't take you long to look it over and pick what you want. Or skip it. Do you really want to shell out for a movie you can only watch on the PSP? I think there are things where you can port videos to your PSP, go that route.

I believe the PSP has a decent version of SOCOM on it. And thus ends my FSP knowledge...

SUPER can do it (converting videos for the PSP). Try searching for it.

I can't really advise about anything regarding the PSP, other than: good god, you have bad taste. You should have gone for a DS. :D

STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT 2!!!!!
Has a crap story mode but is the second best online shooter for PSP.

STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT RENEGADE SQUADRON!!!!!
Has a much better story mode, you can customize your characters and has the best online feature out of all the Battlefront games.

I hear PSP actually has some good games that wouldn't be better on a console nowadays, so maybe that's a little harsh.

It's probably best to ignore me on anything relating to Sony's attempts on the videogame market. I've been a Nintendo zealot to the exclusion of all else since the days of the Gameboy Colour.

Erm what games have I got so far:

Chili Con Carnage = Just a fun shoot em up. It's like Tony Hawk but with guns.
Monster Hunter Freedom: Quests to hunt monsters. You can do whichever you feel. As both onlie and offlie mode so you can do quests with other people.
Smackdown vs Raw 2007: Just fightig really.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008: Haven't really played it yet...

It sure was nice of Nintendo to develop a handheld with color years after their competitors.

a 4 gig memory stick is recommended unless you like having to constantly piss about with files *shudders at thought of having 512MB stick*

don't bother with UMD's just get some perfectly legal movie files (;)) and convert them play on your PSP

never update your psp

See it was a Christmas gift, so I didn't have a choice. Had it been my choice, I would have purchased a PSP anyway. It better suits my needs. I can have my music, watch movies, put pictures on it and play games on top of that.

To those who made suggestions, thanks, I'll look into them.

if youre a hard core gamer, dont bother spending money on movies. in what circumstance would you ever need to watch a movie on a tiny screen? especially a scary movie.

take good care of your psp. i understand its a bit delicate compared to the DS.

and surely you can go through a game catalog and pick out great game better than we can recommend for you.

there are programs out there to turn videos (AVI, DVD, etc..) to run on the PSP.

you can also use the web browser without any special attachments like the DS, and you can download PSP games (gotta pay tho.)

you can also put TXT files on it and use the PSP as an E-Book.

put MP3's on it and use it as a player... get the wired controller for the earphones and you can control the music without pulling out the PSP.

games I have...
Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy II
Hot shot Golf (Love using the Frying pan :))
Valkyrie Profile
Payout (gambling game)
Marvel's Ultimate Alliance
Legend of Heroes
Legend of Heroes II
Silent Hill 0rigins

Movies on UMV
X-Men
X-Men II
X-Men III

The graphics are better than the DS, tho the DS has a bigger library but the PSP is more versitile.

Also, with the memory card... you can acutally have a card for music, videos, games... and most game carriers will have special pockets for the memory cards.

The screen is actually pretty good. I watch movies with subtitles on it and can read the subtitles.

the psp has a beautiful screen

but unless you are going to pirate the movies what is the sense of spending money on a movie for a tiny screen?

buy a real dvd and watch it on your bigscreen tv. there is never a need to watch a movie on a tiny screen. its just not right.

sometimes on long trips, I feel like a movie, or even a tv show, instead of gaming.

and since, unlike the DS, you can have several charged spare batteries, Memory cards ...

It sure was nice of them to make a 3D VR helmet that nobody bought, too. And a little robot for the NES. And the light scope for the NES. Et cetera, et cetera.

Yeah, I wouldn't invest in a huge library of movies but there are times when I might not want to play games, and still keep myself entertained so a few movies would do it. As for the screen, it is large enough, and the picture is quite clear, so that isn't a problem for me.

and surely you can go through a game catalog and pick out great game better than we can recommend for you.

This is my first hand held game system since the old color gameboys. I understand that many console games have PSP counterparts but that doesn't mean they are as good. I'm just curious as to what others find good. In the end, it will be me sitting, looking at a game catalog but with others recommendatons.

It's sad when half the reviews have "we wish this was on the PS2/3 so we could play it properly" in them.
