On Being Sick...

And not mentally either, so no snide comments about it.

<insert comment here with a statement about "in before" a comment about a mental condition or some other sort of "sick" behaviour nor associated with the topic at hand>.

Now then, still wallowing in my own personal vat of endless phlegm, I have to ask, who has been sick this season? Who here was sick over the winter holidays, Christmas or whatever you want to call it?

Who here was miserable the past week because they got a really nasty cold and it hit them the worse on Christmas day?

I got this nasty cold from my husband and I think I might've volleyed it back to him. I noticed I was sick on Dec. 22, the day my mother came to visit me. No, I didn't worry about making her sick because she was importing her germs from out of town.

I felt fine until Christmas Eve then I started to feel icky but not enough to keep me at home. Christmas morning was utterly miserable. Nothing could be worse than being sick then unless it's puking as well and having your father accuse you of being lazy. Yes, my father accused me of being lazy so when he came over to drop off something, I went down to the lobby just to prove I was sick... I think I got my point across.

I have spent the last few days very congested. Yesterday I popped my ears a little too hard and I was dazed. I felt so light-headed, and not in a good way either, not the same way I feel when I smoke. Once that passed, I could feel my head clearing for the first time.

I had gone out on Boxing Day to my dad's house to exchange gifts. Being outside helped me a little. The air was cool but not cold enough that I found it intolerable.

I am better today and able to whine at NSG about how miserable my time.

I went out... the cold air feels nice.

I should know better than to pop my ears but I didn't and I did it again today while I was walking outside. I couldn't see straight, my depth perception was warped and my head felt like it was several feet up from my body. After I sat, I felt better.

Anyway, so, who was sick during the holidays here? Any horror stories to share?

Tis the season...to be sick for weeks on end. As soon as I get over a flu or cold, I get another flu or cold. That's just the way it is, especially with kids in school and daycare who bring home every germ that passes by...

due to my compromised immune system I have consistently caught whatever freaking bug was floating in my general area all season long, I have had maybe 3 -5 days without sickness since late October, mostly viral nothing you can do anything about variety.

Right now I have a monster sinus infection, which is awesome, not because I am sick, but because it's actually treatable beyond "drink lots of water and get rest"

although, if you are sick, I totally recommend the keeping well hydrated.

I drink plenty. But because of a diuretic drug my doctor prescribed me, it's just more excess for me to leak out, so it won't help me. I'll just have to drink more, and continue the vicious cycle. :)

I know what you mean about having a compromised immune system. The sad part for me is it comes from medication that I have to take to fight a disease I have. It sucks.

Sounds like she has enough wrong with her without the added parasite.

Apparently there's a lot of people sick right now..

I, sadly, am one of them.

Have been for a while.

...and then there is going to be plenty of stretching... if it hasn't already happened yet.

Even after it stops, it takes a long time for the physical side effects to taper off. I still show signs of having used that stuff only to have it fail miserably on me.

I'm sick right now too!! *gets paranoid*

First symptoms hit Christmas Eve. Full-on flu Christmas Day. I have not slept more than 3 hours a night for the past 3 days. Now, I'm watching the Pats-Giants game, breathing through my mouth, and threatening to do something dire if these bastard germs jump start my dormant bronchitis - which would have me coughing for the whole first month of the year - and just praying, promising my soul to anyone who can deliver a full night of sleep.

Damnation! I hate being sick, which kind of makes me hate people, in a way.

You haven't really been sick until you've eaten a meal consisting of baked, buttered ham with a full wedge of brie... Oh god.

And that's why I love oranges. They taste exactly the same coming back up...

Well, that's the thing. I can't puke --- it just feels like I've got a huge lump of lead in my stomach, and the rest of my body is going to puke.

Oh god.

Flu here, too.

I wonder if this is a new strain, that's transmissible over the internet... :o

Thank God for flu shots. I haven't been sick with the flu the past 7 years that I received a flu shot. A couple of minor colds were cured with Neo Citran. :D

I've thankfully avoided any notable illnesses this season, so far.

However, I'm ashamed to have to admit that I had to get out of bed at 3am on the morning of the 27th to vomit, copiusly, having spent the whole of Boxing Day gorging on chocolate and homemade ice cream. I vaguely recall the same thing happening to me when I was about 8, but I'm 36 years old, dammit, you'd think I'd know better. :(

I was really sick yesterday morning. I had turned up at trainning and then had to go home cause I had got a bad headache, felt like i was going to puke, was trembling violently and was very pale. I got home, took a couple of paracetomal and then in a couple of hours I felt fine. Today, its like nothing had happened. It was weird.

I have quite bad lungs, so I have to cough a lot with all kinds of yellow stuff coming out. It's not very pleasant, but it could be worse. It happens about 4 or 5 times a year.
Other than that I'm not sick a lot.

Get well soon to you, too. :D

My friend has decided to call it the "conspiracy theory flu." She has decided, just out of being pissed off at life, that the federal government is secretly releasing mutant flu strains into the population in order to build up broad range immunities, presumably to someday reduce health insurance costs, and that this is being done because some dumbass bureaucrat read and misunderstood epidemiology studies that suggest that genetic descendants of people who caught and survived the Black Plague now have some immunity to some other diseases.

I should point out that my friend has a twisted sense of humor and recently lost cable service.

I think your friend thinks more of the federal government than most might. Organising an elaborate plan of broad-range immunisation? I wouldn't trust most of the federal government to organise a piss-up in a brewery.
