Whats your Favorite Computer game?

I do like the Age of Empire series (especially, the 3rd Age of Empires, i got the Asian Dynasties for Christmas.) , Sim City is fine. Old computer games from the 90s are also fine with me, like Master of Orion.

Civilization is excellent.

I like all of the Civ games, Imperialism I & II, Morrowind, Oblivion, Age of Mythology, Rise of Nations, any Total War game, and I generally like playing the "tycoon" games. Probably more that aren't coming to mind right now.

Well, to be honest, without Imperialism I, there would be no Imperialism II.

As for old games being better, I think part of it has to do with the fact that more and more often new games try to encorporate different elements of successful games. This means that they aren't really as new as we'd like, but that they're sellable.

Civilization probably. Several similar games are very nice too (like Master of Orion (2 being my favorite one), Freeciv, CivCTP, Master of Magic, ...).

NWN is also great, due to the very huge amount of very good quality campaigns you can find on Internet, thanks to their decision to give the editor with the game.

And the Wing Commander saga is also great, the 4th (The Price of Freedom) being my favorite one.

I love real time strategy, turn based strategy, and rpgs. Shooters less, and mainly if they're tactical, such as the Hidden and Dangerous series, or if I play them with a group of friends.
My needs change over time and are greatly influenced by what hardware is capable of putting on your monitor. I can't force myself to play Civ II anymore, for instance, mainly because the way-finding is atrocious and because of the Zone of Control. It's a real pity, because Civ II Fantastic Worlds is amazing with its different scenarios, particularly the Dinosaur one.

So my favorites are best classified as Series. Civilization is definitely on top. The Heroes of Might and Magic series is also pretty high. AOE blew me away, and it set a wonderful precedent in the realm of RTS. Rise of Nations was the best adaptation of Civ for an RTS I've ever seen. Baldur's Gate had one of the best RPG plots I've ever been through, and I'm glad NWN2 managed to recapture some of that after NWN failed miserably (plotwise. NWN is a kickass game, particularly due to the amazing customizability of the toolset.)

The Elder Scrolls series, especially Morrowind and Oblivion. I'd say they are my favourite games.

The Timesplitter series. I'm kicking myself for flogging the first one. I ought to have kept that. TS3 is the best, by far. So damned funny.

Not actually played Shogun:Total War. For some odd reason, that company appears to be making games that, whilst graphically and technically impressive, loose something on the gameplay side each time. The battles on Medieval II (whilst looking hideous and juddery on my PC) just aren't epic as the ones on the original Medieval. Bloody shame, really. I did have some excellent times playing the battles on Medieval, huge epic ones against thousands, holding bridges for hours or managing to turn crushing defeats into victories...

*wanders off down memory lane*

Anyways, the Timesplitters series was excellent. I especially liked the Story mode of Future Perfect, as it is might sort of humour completely, although it is a huge paradox. The multiplayer isn't quite as good as TS2, as they cut out a few decent game modes, but nothing beats monkey curling :p

You should really try Shogun. I was quite disappointed with Medieval just for the fact that it didn't have little cutscenes showing an assasination attempt being successful or going horribly worng or when one kingdom lost its lands and their leader threw himself upon a sword. Plus the battles were epic and much more worth it. Soldiers only ran from battle if they were severley outnumbered, sometimes they all fought to the death.

That kind of bugged me, when they legged it. I'd be playing a custom battle, and half the time they turned and pegged it after a certain point, even though there was no tactical reason for doing so. Very irritating.

They did add the cutscenes back in for Medieval II. Some of them are fairly comedic, like an assassin attempting to kill someone with a snake, which them promptly slithers off after a mouse or the spy nicking a guard's gear and then thumping the visor of his sallet helm down by smacking himself on the side of the head.

Another thing that Medieval II is missing is the bits of history, of developments like the Windmill or Anna Comnena's history of her father, Alexius I. Not sure why they started to leave those bits out, like they also cut down the decriptions of the units, which was also a damned shame.

I've got a mate who's into those games, he's an Mod on the official forums. Might be able to borrow Shogun off of him, or alternatively pick it up for a fiver at Game or summat. Bought a few of the old classics like that recently, like Tiberian Sun and Morrowind.

Currently, I divide games I like into two categories: games I can play on my laptop, and games I can't (curse you, inferior graphics card).

Games I can play:
EVE Online
Age of Empires (entire series)
Rise of Nations
Dawn of War
Unreal Tournament
Coming soon: Half-Life 2 (only just started playing, too early to make a decision)

Games I can't play:
Neverwinter Nights 2
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Command & Conquer 3

Older Games that I don't play anymore:
Age of Mythology
Command & Conquer: Generals
Neverwinter Nights
Starcraft (gave it up - it's a great game, I just suck at it)
Red Alert 2
Freelancer
Earth & Beyond
Starlancer
And the first game I remember playing:
Fury^3

All these games are PC games, as I do not own a console. My house has an Xbox, but I'm at college. Favorite Xbox games: Halo (entire series), Gears of War.

Yeh, well computer games... I like the PC adaptions of FFVII and FFVIII (you propably 've guessed it by my name now, 'aven't ya) but that possibly doesn't count, eh?

Going for original computer games, I like many D&D RPGs, such as Icewind Dale or Neverwinter Nights. I'm also a huge fan of C&C (mainly because I mod alot...) and I really liked StarCraft alot. I didn't buy any new games now for some time and the only new games I've got are those included in gaming magazines I read every now and then, and they're already dated by that time (Still, a good way to get your hands on good games for almost nothing, I can recommend it...), so I don't really know what really new games I would like. You can now all start bullying me, but I frequently play some RPG Maker games, and I really found A Blurred Line and Endless Nova amazing. But for me, there's really no truely favourite PC game, only favourite genres, publishers and themes.

I think I'm the only person who was seriously underwhelmed by Starcraft. Of course, I haven't played it in 8 years or so...

Also, Megatraveller 1: The Zhodani Conspiracy. I bought it on 5 1/4" floppy disks (I didn't have a hard drive back then) and played it on my CGA monitor. How I loved that game. It's hard to believe it's been 17 years since I scraped together enough money to buy it at K-Mart.

First would be Fallout and Fallout 2, immediatly followed by The Elder Scrolls ( Morrowind being the best )
The Witcher astonished me, the first game I buy since two years, it gets on my top list.

Omikron: The Nomad Soul, Planescape Torment, Dune ( the first game, made by Cryo, not the Dune II of Westwood )
Beyong Good and Evil.

Legends of Kyrandia, Day of the Tentacle, Ur-Quand Masters ( Star Control II )

Road Rash

That game was pretty fun.

Homeworld, Homeworld: Cataclysm are good. Flying ships around blowing stuff to hell is awesome. Best RTS ever.

Civ III is better than Civ IV only because Civ III works on my computer much better.

C&C 3 fails. I put it into my disk drive and immediately got an error in installation. Following the recommended procedure to deal with said error made my computer crash.

Zero Hour is great though, 'cause of all the mods.
World in Conflict
Civ 4
AOE (just been playing Asian Dynasties)
Call of Duty
Battlefield series
Total War

Oh, and I demand a sequel to Rise of Nations.

I found Homeworld 2 better than Cataclysm...

My favourite game would be Planescape: Torment, followed by Baldurs Gate (PC series), Total Annihilation, Starcraft, Homeworld, Homeworld 2, Soul Reaver, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, and Alien vs Predator 1 & 2.

:p

I know what you mean, I can play any map for any length of time on Civ 3, but my computer is too slow for those large and huge maps in Civ 4.

The only problem with Cataclysm is that it was only moderately related to Homeworld. It had the name and mechanics and backstory, but it is in its own storyline. It is like all the alternate endings in Mortal Combat/Twisted Metal that are discarded when the next game comes out and finalized which ending actually happened.

Lords of the Realm II, Starcraft, Transportation Tycoon (DOS), Elder Scrolls III & IV, Descent, the original Age of Empires, Marathon II (on my old mac)

lords II was my first strategy game, still love it, but it's easy to beat off any siege against my royal castles even on "impossible". If you've played it, you probably know the trick of blocking incoming arrows with the boiling oil cauldrons to provide cover for your archers. I still play it now and then.

I almost forgot (curse my feeble aged memory) - Colonization on DOS in all its 8-bit glory!

Ratchet & Clank is the greatest console game series ever, but that's for another thread, I suppose

The Star Trek Star Fleet Command series is one of my fave's but the last one, SFC3 (which is actually the fourth because the third, Orion Pirates (well worth full price at the time of release), was an addon for 2) was just not up to par. A lot was stripped from the game with 3 and the quality of the writing fell significantly from the EAW. The only real improvement was in graphics but that was an expectation anyway.

I also like the Half-Life series for obvious reasons.

I have Half-life and Escape from Monkey Island on my PS2, but since they're also PC games, I hope they count for this forum.

I do like the Age of Empire series (especially, the 3rd Age of Empires, i got the Asian Dynasties for Christmas.) , Sim City is fine. Old computer games from the 90s are also fine with me, like Master of Orion.

AoE 3 is great. Got it during the holidays. I've always like the age of empires series but age of mythology wasn't that great.
I like strategy games in general but I also played The Sims for a really long time. The first sims is my favourite.

other then train sims, i've yet to find any that were about anything that intrests me enough to be worth a fraction of what they want for them.

instead i 'play with' illustration and drafting programs like autocad and blender, and music makiners like studio-41, flex music, and audioacity.

i do have rule the rail, r3d, and bahn, but the timer has long since run out on the demo period for bahn and i don't have bochim's 80dm to give him for the codes to turn it back on.

i like the idea of what games could be, but what there mostly about pretty much leaves me cold.

i want to sim what wouldbe, couldbe, shouldbe, not sameold sameold sameold, going arround greedily beating everything over the head, the way bush seems to think america has some kind of might makes right to do to the rest of the planet, even if the entire web of life and every species that depends on it, human included, gets wiped out in the proccess, and i don't care how all powerful of a fiend they let you pretend to be.

oh, i know there are some cute ones out there. there may even be some that WOULD intrest me a little, but there just too damd expensive for something that offers so little, usually none at all, opportunity for being origeonally creative.

(dam, i want to build those windmills and monorails and sim that, solar cells on every roof instead of coal and oil, et c., and to hell with tedius armed robbery, however clever the armament or its simulation)
