Well a bit of a misnomer in the title as I think both are great icons of British comedy (although I struggle with that in regards to Python due to Gilliam).
Python sketches are utter classics. No one can deny that. However in the BBC TV series Porridge (http://www.porridge.org.uk/) the main character and protagonist is Norman Stanley Fletcher, who's wry observations are not only relevant today but also hilarious.
However the difference is the style of delivery. Python is sketches...even the movies...they are all sketches. In Porridge the story line and plot unfold in each scene. Not all scenes are sketches. They often deliver a very hard blow of social reality. As does Python in its own way.
I do think Ronnie Barker is a comic genius as I do the Python crew.
My wondering is what kind of show would have happened had they collaborated....I suspect a mess.
Ok. Thats not quite true. I just downed two bottles of Veuve Clicquot and am starting to forget the point of this post.
Um.
I like boobs ;)
Do you?
Never seen Porridge but I do like Monty Python.
I also like
Piglet Files
'Allo 'Allo
Are You Being Served?
Black Adder
oh and yes, I also like Boobs! :D

'Allo 'Allo was a bit much for me I admit...but Black Adder is another classic but not at the same level as Python or Ronnie Barker.

Allo Allo (fek the ')...it was too forced for me....but then I have that issue with most of the 'mainstream' BBC comedies...
/boobs...as in funnymen.... and of course the real ones...goes without saying!
Beer!

Ah... ok...
One mainstream comedy that I do like is Till Death Do Us Part....
The main character is a loud mouthed racist lout...played by a card carrying Communist and avowed anti racist...
Utterly amazing.
In the US the show was called All in the Family...Archie Bunker...
Alf Garnet was loads better....

John Howard Davies produced and directed both Monty Python (in fact was there at the beginning) and Fawlty Towers...

but that doesn't particually pass the program to participate as part of the Python Pantheon, perhaps in passing a product of partial particpants of the Python Pantheon, however, by perchance its only a pair of Python participants that produced the program which is a piss poor posistion to ponder it's participation as a Python Programing product.
That doesn't mean that Fawlty Towers can't stand on it's own, for it does.

Ahh no I did not say FT could not stand on its own. Rather that its creative roots are in MP hence a part of the Pantheon of MP comic genius.
Of course the part that was not from Python was Connie Booth...who....yep was in How to Irritate People which included several future Pythons...she was also in a few Python films....and...a few parts in the TV series...

I love the way just looking at that image can make me laugh :)
Monty Python certainly is my comedy of choice. Fawlty Towers comes just behind.

oh the FT comment was to say that it didn't deserve to be tied with Monty Python, but it should stand on it's own. ;)
of course HtIP featured 'future' pythons... Monty Python's Flying Circus was released the following year. ;)

I believe that scene was totally improvised. the car just stopped working and Cleese, the true Pythonite that he is, just kept going in character and the director keep the camera's rolling.

As a sit com I think its possibly the best ever...mainly because it did not last past what 12 episodes?
but I think 12 is too short to call it a series per se...maybe I'm being over analytical....
